I also understand that some.. er.. disagreement over Ambha Love possibly singing this contributed to the ending of the C50.

I don't think that caused anything to do with the 50th reunion ending. It was more a symptom of things than a cause.

I don't believe the reasons Mike gave. I think Mike didn't like the amount of adulation Brian was getting on stage. At the penultimate show Mike described it as 'a show in two halves - first half and second half'. Of course it was a show in in two halves in more ways than just that. Maybe Ambha wanting to do SOS was one of the flashpoints. Maybe there were other flashpoints  too.

From what I remember, there was no problem with her singing SOS. Back then the anecdote was that Mike asked Brian if Ambha could sing SOS and Brian replied jokingly "But I was gonna sing it!" but had no problem with it. Of course even back then people already said that Mike wanted to push his daughter in the spotlight etc. but that was not what the report I heard suggested.

Here's the direct YouTube link to this little video clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_74NLBJDMc&t=51s

Al mentioned in a Q&A on one of his recent cruise gigs that the filmmakers didn't even want them to do any playing/singing, and he had to convince them to let him have a guitar on hand just in case they might want to sing together. Subsequently, several have mentioned that they sang a few songs together during this meet-up.

But it might be worth pondering the question, what if the filmmakers kept to their original idea of just making this essentially a "photo op" situation in the documentary? Wouldn't it be kind of nuts if they didn't even include any of the songs from that day in the final documentary? It would be nuts.....right?
I guess Frank Marshall likes Duophonic!

You can get alcoholic drinks at the Paradise Cove restaurant, which is where they're sitting (outside dining area)..

In the new beach reunion, it almost looks like the guys are toasting with glasses of water.   Guess no one ever told them that was bad luck!

Drinking is illegal on the beach. What a way to finish the documentary. A repeat of the ‘Failure To Surf’ Brian arrest…but with all 5 of them. 😉

I'm curious what the doc soundtrack will consist of.  Anyone have an inkling of a tracklist?

Considering they haven't announced anything and the doc is a week away, I would think the most likely scenario is just what essentially amounts to a Spotify playlist. I don't anticipate new/unreleased tracks. I would assume some shorter variation of "Sounds of Summer."

My guess is that what Mike is really referring to when lamenting not writing with Brian on the reunion album is that there are no “Wilson/Love” collaborations.

You make a very good point. Yet in 2006 when the guys got the platinum (?) records for "Sounds of Summer" on the Capitol Tower rooftop Brian reportedly gave Mike a demo of a new song and asked if Mike wanted to write lyrics and the latter declined - https://youtu.be/OTSeL27Wq00?t=126
It sounds like this could've been a Wilson/Love tune. Now, I don't know what Mike's reason is. I have my theory but it's just that.
