What do fellow Smiley Smile boarders think of the band?
Been an Australian, I am probabily exposed to them more than others - but their more recient work is amazing.
Forget their early "grunge" stuff DIORAMA is a remarkable record, kinda symphonic prog rock. Their latest YOUNG MODERN is more akin to quirky pop songs. Van Dyke Parks has contributed string arrangements to their last few albums too - that can't be bad. Discuss.

Great stuff! Young Modern is a great album. Great songs. It is very inspiring to hear talented music nowadays. It's kind of sad that their international career is pretty much gone when it comes to record sales but the trends of the music business are what they are and young people, people my age don't seem to appreciate talent. Atleast here in socialist Europe. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what they'll do next. However, I find it difficult to believe they can top Young Modern but who knows.

Diorama was ridiculously good. I had Frogstomp for years and, aside from a couple songs, wasn't much into it. I couldn't believe it when a friend burned me Diorama - how much they had changed for the better.
Young Modern was pretty good, too, and I liked Neon Ballroom.
Diorama, though... yowza. "Tuna in the Brine" is absolutely brilliant.

Van Dyke Parks did the strings for that track (Tuna...) and a couple of others. He was also involved with "Young Modern".
