I am the only crazy person who has noticed similarities between E (Mark Oliver Everett) and his project, Eels and the Brian Wilson of the 60s? He's a relentless experimenter, very prolific, a master of multiple styles ... and half nuts!

It's a common comparison by critics. I like E's music a lot--and actually thought his double disc was the best album of last year--but he's no Brian Wilson.

Definitely no Brian Wilson ... but perhaps a Brian Wilson for the 00s!

No, because E isn't changing anything. Brian did things people hadn't done. E is someone who has a strong hold of what has been done, and he uses it to his advantage to make cool records. And as for the 00s...I think his best stuff was probably in the 90s. Electro-Shock was fantastic.

Don't forget "Daisies of the Galaxy".  A few tracks on there feature the same piano Neil Young played on "After the Goldrush".

I think Daisies is from 2000. My point about Electro-shock was the decade thing. I do like Daisies--a lot.

I always think of it as 1991-2000...but that's me.

He does record a lot earlier than he releases...no doubt there. Really he's taking Zappa's Project/Object and conceptual continuity to new heights--it's almost all just one big album.

Didn't Jack Nitzsche play piano on most of Neil Young's albums in the 70's?
