With the great music they were making in the early 70's, I wonder why the painter thought that they were in it for greed? By 1973, they weren't making the big bucks that would be coming their way in 1974 and beyond. If anything, The Beach Boys were paying their dues that had bypassed them at the beginning of their career. Great likeness of the guys, though.
I guess this writer didn't like the band and its fame back in the pre-counterculture days and singled them out as an example of greedy music that the late 1960s music got rid of in the writer's mind. (car of greed with a flat tire) The perception was the group was on the ropes, which musically wasn't the truth. Good thing he didn't make a picture of Brian being washed up, which would be bad taste in my opinion.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

- Lester Bangs on The Beach Boys

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

OMG ! What a collection !

I think most interesting would be US-magazines from '67-'74 (from their beginning downfall to the comeback) and early 90s material. But in fact I probably should jump a plane and pay you a visit  Grin

Mike says" Grass can kill the natural high"; and yet he sits on it to meditate!!  What was he thinking??!?!?!?!
Not certain why the pages don't line up, but they're close...

creem--8/72  posted pt1, lost pt 2
no hurry and thanks
Yes,in some ways, but in my case it's more of the rest of the collection; the mags I keep in those big plastic/Rubbermaid containers. the shelves next to my computer hold my cassette and reel coollection for my constant visual pleasure!
By the way, Rocker, I'm not picking...
For the other 45% of the magazine connection( I figure steve and I have done 90%, but I'm just guessing and maybe way off)  here's the Creem of the crop:

I'll scan until Photobucket threatens to kick me off for the month( or I think I'm close to getting booted) and then it's renewal waiting time. My months seem to renew on the 16th.

The Beach Boys contest is a hoot !  Here's my answer to selected questions:

3 - None of them.

6 - see answer to question #3.

7 - as above.

Yup, geek central here: business as usual.
