451  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Specific Beach Boys Musical Moment That Is Kicking Your Ass Right Now on: December 15, 2014, 06:08:04 PM
Sometimes I firmly believe You Need A Mess of Help to Stand Alone is the greatest record ever made. Occasionally I believe that strange "double snap" in Sweet Mountain ("stand-ing there - Ching Ching") is mind blowing. And today. For no apparent reason, I have Love is a Woman stuck in my head ( the Saturday Night Live version). Go figure.

Here we are in the year 2014, with Brian still making music at the age of 72, performing with Al, Blondie, and Ricky, putting out new music that could be pretty amazing.  I remember, back in the late 1970's, frequently wondering if Brian would live another year or two, and since then, look at all that he has given the world.  This man is one of the greatest musical figures of the last 100 years, and we are lucky enough to have him still with us today.  I think we should all keep things in perspective.

John Entwistle wrote "My Wife" and "Boris the Spider", but I think perhaps The Who still needed some minor contributions from that Townshend guy...

...and, once again, alcohol saves the board!

Letterman was a gigantic fan of Warren.  He sang on Warren's "Hit Somebody"!

Re: Excitable Boy, you should listen to the entire album, truly great in a slightly demented way.

Roxy Music: Flesh and Blood
Lovin'Spoonful: Hums
Elton John: Tumbleweed Connection
Warren Zevon: Excitable Boy

His Rick Nelson in Concert at the Troubadour is a great album, too.  From '69 or '70...

Just got Rick's two albums on CD, Rick Sings Nelson and Rudy the 5Th.  Hadn't heard them in 20 years! Both are great, he had such great bands, too.  Saw him twice in concert in the early '80's, remember the last one where he played only a 45 minute set.  Set was great but he must have had a hot date, people were pissed that he did such a short show.

Somewhere in an alternate universe there is a Beer Message Board thread that has been derailed by talk of Brian's upcoming album...

This album will suck because of the wheat juice...

I, for one, come to this thread on a daily basis looking for exactly what Ray has just given us.  Thank you, Ray!

Jeez, this board has slowly become a total pain.  Everyone is so smart and has little better to do than have pissing matches.  Maybe the next album will suck.  So many of us have pre-conceived notions as to WHY it will suck - auto-tuning, Joe Thomas involvement, Melinda pulling the strings, it isn't a Beach Boys album, Brian isn't REALLY writing the songs, the songs aren't REALLY new songs, it doesn't have Dennis on it, Carl didn't sing lead, the guest artists aren't Brian's idea, it's no Pet Sounds, on and on... very tiring.  Seems to me that most of us are HOPING it SUCKS... Why do any of us actually come to this board?

Maybe we could get service animals for some on this board to cue them when a thread is ridiculous...
"what if Dennis was reincarnated as a cat"? is a good example...
471  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / The Paul McCartney thread... on: April 25, 2014, 05:17:45 PM
Anyone have any news on Brian Wilson's next album?
472  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What If Paradox on: March 25, 2014, 03:06:37 PM
If the Beach Boys did not exist , I would never have met my wife, or had 7 kids. And I would have never spent the thousands of dollars I blew on collecting.  And I never would have done my newsletters back in the day... So it wouldn't be ALL bad...
473  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If Dennis was reincarnated as a cat, what kind would he be? on: March 18, 2014, 06:01:10 PM
If Dennis was a cat, and his owner had him neutered, would he ever have recorded All I Want To Do? Huh?  Would he? (not "Woody")...
