I've always wondered--is it ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that "swedish frog" is what's being said in that section? And if so, why swedish frog? What is the significance of that?

Some people hear it as "Swedish erotica."

God only knows...

I wish they'd just call it swedish frog

I, too, wish they'd just call it a title that no one has ever confirmed or no one even knows if it's being said. I mean it only makes sense.

Gosh, Andrew, you don't think they could have seen a decade into the future and anticipated the accent of a Swedish chef muppet?

I did. I think it's too muddy to really be able to tell much. It also sounds very dissonant. I mean, i like it how it sounds, but i don't know that it helps much in seeing the connection. I was going to suggest that you pan each song to one side. I think that would make it easier to hear a connection, if any.

The first time i ever heard Little Pad, i thought the lyric was "Cher would like to have a little pad in Hawaii"

I'm hearing a ton of dissonance. Again, I think your thinking this is entirely coincidence.

Telephone lyrics - no evidence they were ever recorded...
Toothbrush do-a-lot - only source is word of one shadowy collector...

I too doubt the telephone lyrics were ever recorded. And in any event, I am skeptical we'll get anything "new" on TSS regarding Cabin Essence, seeing as how the "missing" October 11 session does not appear to be referenced anywhere in the track listing. A small disappointment, that. (But not one that in any way overshadows my unimpeded ecstacy!)

There was no session for Cabin Essence on Oct. 11 1966. The wrong track name was put on the Session sheet. The Oct. 11 session was for Child is Father of the Man and produced the slow verse, the one BWPS used, and possible some of the other sections. So, there was only the Oct. 3 session for Cabin Essence (as Home on the Range) and no other sections recorded. There is a thread around here on this topic from a year or two back and Alan Boyd confirms this.

Also:

CD THREE
SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

CHILD IS FATHER OF THE MAN
16. Child Is Father of the Man (Version 1) (10/7/66) (4:57)
17. Child Is Father of the Man (Version 2) (10/11/66) (5:38)

Isn't Swedish frog one of the lyrics in Mannfred Manns Blinded by the Light?

Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps the Swedish frog jumped into his hat Tongue.

I've never been able to hear "frog."  I've always heard it as "Swedish for..." something, and then he cracks up while he's saying the last word.  Actually, given it's Dennis saying it, I always thought it was "Swedish for boner" or "Swedish for bl*wj*b."

There's an acetate of Child Is Father Of The Man from late '66 that runs about 1:45 that's been on boots for years. If this is the same version on the box set, I don't know. It doesn't have any lead vocals but it does have fuller vocals on the chorus fade.

That is the version (or variation thereof) I am expecting.  Verse lyrics are just too much to hope for.

My head says that you're probably right, but my heart says that maybe you're not right.   We've heard some hints that there will be a few blockbusters (i.e., things that will "blow us away").  Obviously, the 1967 Surf's Up is a shoo-in for the blockbuster category.   So far, that's pretty much it, though, right?   And if that IS it, well, so be it.   It'll still be a great set.

On the other hand, I ask myself, "What sort of discoveries would those in-the-know consider mind-blowing for the hardcore fans?"  Something that would certainly qualify: surprise verse vocals for at least one of the following: Worms, Child, Great Shape, Barnyard, I Wanna Be Around or Da Da.

Here's hoping that our minds are blown.

"Teeter-Totter Love" will blow you away. But not because it's any good...

I detect a "for completists only" tone...  I'm also guessing "Three Blind Mice" must be a prototype of "TTL", otherwise why have a 1965 track on a box of Smile-related songs?

Nooooooooooooooooo ! "T-TL" is to "TBM" as "Wrinkles" is to "God Only Knows".  Grin

I only know "Wrinkles" from its reputation, but I gather "T-TL" is a "one listen only" track.  Gosh, now I'm curious just how bad it could be!

yeah man... glad you like it. thanks!

as for the dissonance in my mash-up, it's likely due to the fact that i wasn't able to match the keys exactly. I didn't spend that much time on it, and my ear isn't perfect.
if you really can't hear the striking similarity in the chord progressions and patterns, i don't know what to tell ya.

To me it sounds like "Swedish massage" - perhaps it had to do with "Swedish sin" and the "sexual revolution"?
Wonder if Mike had something to do with this... ;P

NOW...................speaking of Sweden:

Here are some genuine shows from Swedish Radio back then. You can hear Good vibrations at around 34 min's in the Dec 10 1966 show.

Swedish Frog is what I'm hearing there.

I think the reason is because it was Al who was doing the "Frog" sounds, and Al is blonde, so, he was a "Swedish Frog" to a stoned Brian.

I think one of the reasons Al didn't have the nicest things to say about this session is because he was laughed at when he already felt somewhat subconscious/humiliated for having to make said animal sounds to begin with.

All IMHO, of course  Smiley
