Don't ba-understand why we know Mark and co. have a stereo mix of the album prepared (and have for some time), they're re-releasing most albums from that era, they're including two songs from it in stereo on here, but no planned release of the album ;(

"Darlin'" sounds purty cool - I never even noticed those horn parts during the verse, only the chorus.

This would've been the perfect place to release a proper stereo "Do It Again", too, but ah well. Considering the wealth of new mixes and material we've gotten this year, I can't complain about that one much.

Edit: I only now realize how the track order is a bit of a clusterf*** in spots. "Getcha Back" between "Wendy" and "The Little Girl I Once Knew"? teh hell. The entire tracklist reads like they threw it in Winamp, hit ""Randomize list" and said "HELL YEH DAWG"

Darlin' seems like it's gonna be a good mix - a lot of things popped out at me even at that low bit rate. Hopefully it'll be on the big box. Not buying either greatest hits issue.

Really, they should be doing at least the 50 Big Ones thing in chronological order. Charting the band's early years all the way up to now would make the perfect flow and the most sense.

Those stereo Wild Honey tracks are great, even in a low bit rate stream.

Yeah, they sound fantastic

I was a bit soft on buying "50 big ones" initially, but now I'm feeling it's a must have

Obviously it will be sooner or later, just seems odd that this and a couple other albums were omitted, especially when we've known of a prepared Wild Honey stereo mix for a year or two now. They need to release it in two weeks so I can download it illegally and frantically listen before I'm hit by three buses and die.

They'll do the whole Magilla Gorilla, don't worry. They have to leave awaited gems for the second batch. I want mono Concert and Christmas Album, damnit.

I have to echo everyone here and say those Wild Honey and Darlin' clips sound great. Carl's singing sounds better somehow.

That would be nice if the liner notes were changed; umpteenth Pet Sounds issue on CD, and it STILL says that 'Sloop John B.' was forced on the record by Capitol. Um, WRONG.

Just out of interest, what is the story about SJB being on PS?

Record company practice dictates that your latest single (ie, Sloop) is on the album. Brian Wilson is totally down with that.

Well, the rumor that Capitol forced Brian to add 'Sloop John B.' onto Pet Sounds as it was a hit single a few months before the album was released has been around a while. Adding to the rumor is the fact that 'Sloop' was the first of the PS tracks recording, in July 1965. Then at some point Brian's hand-written list of tracks that would appear on the album, sent to Capitol in February and 'Sloop' was on it, still a good month away from release as a single. He had intended to include it all along.

(It's worth mentioning that that early list of Brian's also included 'Good Vibrations', 'The Old Man and The Baby' (LGAFA) but not 'God Only Knows', 'Here Today' and 'I'm Waiting For The Day' since they weren't recorded yet by February. )

I recall hearing somewhere that "Here Today" had a working title of "Good Vibrations"? 'zat right, or is it bullshit? It might explain why "Good Vibrations" appears on the early tracklist and "Here Today" doesn't - not that "Good Vibrations" wasn't once considered for Pet Sounds, but still.

Yeah, and Don't Worry Baby sure sounds like the 2009 Summer Love Songs version, not the original stereo mix.

What?  LP version and not the up'd single version?  Well, they used this version on Warmth of the Sun comp, so I'm not surprised.  Am I missing something else?

The Wild Honey remixes sound like they're gonna be awesome.

Also really pumped to hear Rock N Roll Music + It's OK in full quality. Sounds like they're cleaner + a lot less compressed than the original versions.

Why would they use the old one?

What do you mean? Who is to say they didn't mean to use the album version? Or is the parenthetical "On My Way To Sunny Californ-i-a" part supposed to indicate that it should have been the single version?

The latter, as that is how the single mix was named.

I haven't listened again, but I'm pretty sure I heard Brian's "I'm on way" when I was browsing through the sample, it was just really buried. Is that the norm on the album mix? I agree with Selteab regarding the two 15BO tracks. The It's O.K. mix in particular sounds like a pretty big improvement. It's always been one of those songs where I want to like it, but the shitty mix has prevented me in doing so.
