I'd like to point out here that it has been more than two weeks since this info came out, and the press release that many here insisted would come from Capitol has not come.

There is no confirmation these are coming to the U.S. or Europe. Not a word. Not a peep. After this amount of time, I think it's safe to say that these are Japan-only releases, and likely to stay that way.

What date was "The SMiLE Sessions" officially announced by Capitol last year?

[Edit]Looks like it was on or around August 31st[Edit]

That said..  give it a few weeks before you start making a bucket list.

We haven't even gotten the promised greatest hits release or the archival/"career spannig box set" yet (nor do we even have a release date for them).  When those are out, I'll feel safe to throw in the towel on these remasters.  Considering I'm not that desperate to get these remasters, I'm not having sleepless nights over it so the wait won't bother me, in the least.

Me too.  I'll survive if they don't make it to my house.  If it was a MFSL SACD of Love You!  Then I'd be all sweaty-like.

EMI Japan are effectively independent of Capitol. No reason at all that these discs should be released world-wide. And I offer that those insisting that there would be a Capitol news release share with Cohen the trait of not having the first idea what's actually going on. This, FYI, isn't a veiled reference that I do, just a statement of fact.  Grin

I actually meant the full details of the release, not the initial statement by Al made in February.

I don't know if your comment was directed at myself, or not.  I will say that endless speculation and wishful thinking is part of being a nerdy fan of a band is all about.  If you think the 18 pages of this thread are amusing, the 21 THREADS of speculation about the Beatles mono box set on the Hoffman board in the summer of 2009 would have you in stitches.

I can say for sure I have never once 'insisted there would be a Capitol press release'; I have however lamented the fact that I wish there would be one.  And will in all likelihood continue to hold out hope that there's a remastered set of albums a box and a new 'anthology'.  Can't help myself.

I'm thinking hard about buying a few titles just to sample them.  I have a "Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (1962-1965) that was pressed in 2000 by EMI Japan; it sounds fantastic.  I don't know who did the mastering.

Some of Mark Linett's mastering decisions in the past have caused me to really shake my head.  That said, I really thought the team (Linett/Boyd) did a splendid job on the SMiLE box.  So I think it bodes well for these, their possible exclusivity to Japan not withstanding.

If these aren't being released in the West, that's what the internet is for. Cheers, 21st century.

So I haven't been a member here very long but I'm already getting the vibe that deviating one's opinion from the group's opinion isn't welcome?

It IS welcome...but be prepared for some heavy resistance if it's not a "correct" opinion.

I can understand ripping into people that are overly negative, no one likes a Debbie Downer.  But I was getting the feeling that some of that was directed at me and I'm not sure what I said that warranted it?

Usually everything is pretty relaxed, but the board tends to find itself a whipping boy from time to time to take out frustration on, which is why people will spend pages bitching about Phil Cohen when he isn't even actively posting in a thread.

I don't think there's any chance that Capitol will not release something eventually.
