Where's that 1980s photo of Brian wearing a Speedo-type bathing suit, standing on a piano bench & making a muscle-pose?  It used to be easy to find, but now I can't.

I was looking on the magazine cover for a possible date, but I only found September  ?  Any ideas as to what year this was taken, and was this a Landy idea for Brian to pose that way?  In the one where's he standing on the bench, he's straining way too hard, especially in his face.

I picked up a stack of these (free) from the magazine rack at Tower Records in September, 1988.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Yikes, those photos are scary! Shocked

They're rather anti-Brian, imho. (What was Landy thinking?) And all before Photoshop; doctoring photos was a lot more hands-on back then.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

This was a magazine cover, with a Beach Boy, that I must have missed (I did not miss many!)

Seems Brian was proud of all the working out...

Dennis could pose like that and get away with it.

He just had that, as they say, «Je ne sais quoi.» (Denni, those are French quotation marks!)  LOL

Although metaphorically, Brian was/and still is a "He-Man" at the piano!  Wink

how many magazine "covers" would you say "they" have been on, and how many of "those" have you "missed"?

This doesn't make me think "Brian" is proud of his "working out" but more "embarassed" that Landy is "making him do it"

Probably 1988 to promote the album?  This was after he lost a lot of weight via Landy, & there may be mention of the photo session in the WIBN book, but I don't remember for sure.

As mikie pointed out, it was September 1988. It was simply a quick scanner shot ( what a difference an inch makes)

i've seen this as the cover of Sweet Insanity, I think it was the Dumb Angel Rarities that's responsible.

Just one more reason the album wouldn't sell.  Roll Eyes

bgas -

That is a tough call of your question for many reasons...

First, and before I became a fan, they were on all the teeny bopper magazines, at least in the US.  Is it possible to know how many magazine covers they graced?  I don't know.

Second, I do have a few of the now-rarer magazines since the mid 1960's, say, post Pet Sounds...(I don't have what is posted above.)

Third, the whole Landy thing is still so ethically troubling on many levels, more to do with how, he, as a professional, breached the relationship, in terms of provider-patient, which, nowadays, would have had him quickly barred from practice as he took advantage of his position, from what I have read, even if it was by only a dollar; it would be symbolic as unethical, because his job was to take care of Brian, and not have Brian take care of him!

It was an apparent abuse of of his position as caregiver.

But, if you go back to square one and try to look at the entire picture, and balance both sides, at step one, does one say thanks to Landy for keeping Brian alive?  You must.

Then, step two, does one ask, whether Landy crossed the line? I think so.  In fairness, you have to look at both sides...

We (I) only look from a selfish perspective, of keeping him alive, even though something tells me that Brian may have been persuaded to strike such a pose.

Brian looks great to me, and very comfortable in a one of those piqué cotton Ralph Lauren shirts that he often wears for his summer shows...

Speedos are designed for competitive swimmers!  LOL
