In a time of tragedy in the world (the tsunami in Japan, Qaddafi's slaughter of his own people), I find myself turning to this extraordinary piece of music (the original instrumental version) and thinking that it is an embodiment of the greatness of the human spirit.  It shows the beauty human beings are capable of creating at our very best.

If you haven't read c-man's piece on it (and the rest of Dennis's solo work), you really should:

"Holy Man" is discussed at pages 31-32 and 67-68.  I truly love the fact that the "band" for this song was basically Denny on keyboards, Ricky on drums and Carl on guitar.  Boy did all three of them do incredible work on the track!  It may have been the finest moment instrumentally for each of them.  All three just take their time and play so sweetly, so beautifully.

When I listen to this piece I feel Denny is somehow in the room with me.

Totally agree.  I was impressed with what Taylor Hawkins did with the vocal, but that instrumental track is so moving.  It's brought me to tears a few times.

Agreed. It's been my favourite DW solo track for some years now - beside "All Alone". It's something about the melody...
