For the record, I couldn't care less what your politics are, nor you mine.  Can we all agree to keep that out of our discussions on BB reunions?

I don't want Brian to be there, because it's too late for me to catch a plane to California.  LOL

Good point!

Brian or no Brian, I for one will set the alarm for 04:00 Central European Time - this will be great (I wish and hope and pray).

So, who can get closest to the set list they'll play? Here's my guess:

1. California Girls
2. Surfer Girl (Al middle eight)
3. Help Me Rhonda
4. Barbara Ann
5. Surfin' USA

I predict a very oldies heavy setlist...It'll be interesting to see how many songs they do that Al or Bruce were not involved in the orig. recording. Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Surfin USA, Surfin Safari, etc...and apparently the guy who WAS on those songs was not invited. Not cool if you ask me.

It makes me cringe sometimes when I think that these guys were in any capacity buddy-buddy with Reagan. Ugh.

Not to malign someone who led California into some better days as our Governor, someone who had earlier in his career helped make a star out of Bonzo, went on to become President not only of the Screen Actors Guild, but of the whole-dang U.S. of A, and eventually allow my buddy Dennis a funeral normally reserved for Admirals & the like, but let's not forget how he developed such a close relationship with The Boys...
For further research, dig out a copy of daughter Patti Davis' autobiography, "The Way I See It"; to wit:  "And, to save you page-flipping to find out who the Reagans' wild daughter claims she has slept with or been otherwise romantically entangled with: actors Timothy Hutton (short involvement) and Peter Strauss (longer); doomed Beach Boy Dennis Wilson (intermittent, crisscrossing-lives sort of thing); Eagles member Bernie Leadon (live-in); singer Kris Kristofferson (interviewed him for a TV show in his hotel room, spent the night, drove Secret Service bonkers)."
http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1992-05-06/features/1992127123_1_patti-davis-ronald-reagan-kris-kristofferson

Thanks Ed,  I saw Mike and Bruce at a small venue in Indiana (last spring) and Mike dedicated "Their hearts were full of spring" to Ronald Reagan.

Don, that could actually give them more publicity than the usual hits that everybody expects:

"The one-time leader of the band, Brian Wilson, who arrived late, reportedly because he had to wait for the right moment to sneak out of the house due to his wife not wanting him to perform, then launched in to a rendition of the nursery rhyme 'Shortenin' Bread'. When, after seven minutes in, he still showed no signs of finishing the repetitive groove, security dragged him of the stage. A security guard, who wish to remain anonymous, claims that Wilson shouted 'but I was just going to play 'Proud Mary' even as the doors closed behind him."

Still; Al and Bruce have sung those same songs live hundreds of times more than Dave ( it's OK to mention his name Jon)
After all, they're not doing the original recordings, they're performing them live.  Smiley
Apparently Mike, for all his past love for Dave, doesn't consider him an integral part of the reunion mix.
Or maybe he just forgot.

Isn't the show on the 5th?
If you REALLY want to be there, it's not too late.
Heck, you can probably charter a private jet "Friday Night", if you want to get there in style. Wink

No David I guess. He wasn't around in 1983 -1984, when the BB were "associated" with Reagan.

Mike, Bruce and Alan on one stage: great development IMO. Here's hoping for more.

I know it probably wasn't in Brian's best interest to announce that he might play or record with The Beach Boys in 2011 while talking about BWRG, so I could see why he would say he wasn't gonna do it, but does anybody think it is possible that he actually might not play a concert with them at all, or do any kind of recording or DVD special with them?

I mean, he has shows in the fall already scheduled right? And he is recording for his Disney project. And I would assume any real solid reunion would require a bit of work, so I'm kinda nervous about the prospects of a reunion featuring Brian.

So, who can get closest to the set list they'll play? Here's my guess:

1. California Girls
2. Surfer Girl (Al middle eight)
3. Help Me Rhonda
4. Barbara Ann
5. Surfin' USA

Replace 'Surfin' USA' with 'Long Tall Texan' for me. Complete with Mike's dancing of course.  Grin

In all seriousness: I think you hit the nail on the head with that list.

I'm not saying David should be there at the exclusion of Bruce or Al. Its cool they are getting together. Not cool that David wasn't asked. I know he'd go if he was asked, and he'd play the guitar parts to those songs as well or better than anybody who will be there. Sorry, call me crazy, but I do prefer to hear the guys who were actually on the hit recordings. I think its a spiritual thing, and it makes it more fun. You can spin it all you want, but there is no good reason to leave him out.

You are correct sir; there is no good reason to leave him out of any real Beach Boys reunions.
On the other hand, when has good reason ever entered into any decisions on the Beach Boys made by Mike?

That said, as another poster pointed out, Dave didn't play at the original Reagan show; so it's not as if he's being excluded from a reunion based on that criteria.
If the Beach Boys do any Actual Reunions for their 50th, Dave should definitely be a part

They have 20 minutes, correct, I think it will be more than 5 songs.  I am guessing the setlist will be:

1. Wrinkles
2. Rock N Roll Survivor
3. PT Cruiser
4. At The Hop '85 Outtake version
5. California Energy Blues (with participation from Arnold)
6. Be True To Your Bud
7. 5 minute speech about TM
Encore
8. Problem Child (Dedicated to Patti Reagan)

I love David as much as any of us, but he DID quit the Beach Boys after all, right?

Have any of you ever quit a band? I have and can tell you, it causes some problems for situations such as this.

That said, I hope he's there and at any future reunions.

I also wish he'd never quit!

The two guitar Carl and David attack was simply awesome.
