How are these songs too risque', but a song called "One Piece Topless Bathing Suit," isn't?

"Gonna Hustle You" started life out as "(When Summer Comes) Gonna Hustle You" and "Get A Chance With You". There's about four different versions of the song. At the time of release, "Gonna Hustle You" was rejected and a new version was re-done with Jan, Dean, and the Honeys called "New Girl In School".
Per Dean Torrence: It wasn't so much Liberty Records as the conservative publishing company who objected to the "Hustle You" term, which back in 1964 was a little risque for them. "It was a corporate thing. Musically, they didn't care. To them it was business. As soon as one disc jerky says he'd be afraid to play it, they retreat. They didn't want to go out on a limb, and they still don't today."
Here's the version I like from 1963 (not 10/62, right?) From a demo acetate I believe. Sounds like Brian with Carl's guitar playing. Anyone know if these are the Beach Boys playing? If so, just two or three of them? "Get A Chance With You" is also good. I love it! And I
really
like the version that Dean re-made in the early 70's!

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

It's had the 10/62 date from way back, and I hear Dean in there - the two bands first met in late August 1962.

Sounds like at least Carl playing on that, Andrew. Anybody else playing/singing? I have "Gonna Hustle You and "Get A Chance With You" from April and May 1963. Three different web sites have them at "early 1963". Not that
they're
correct or anything....

The chart version by the Rip Chords (as originally written by Sloan & Barri) was about a topless four-year-old girl on the beach.
Jan & Dean changed that imagery (with an extra songwriting credit in their camp) to a topless granny on the beach . . . but it wasn't released as a single. Album cut only. In 1964, the emphasis was on singles.
"Gonna Hustle You" was re-written for single status.

One of the
very, very
few BBs-related songs I can't stand is 'Gonna Hustle You'.
I had to say this.
