A lot of his pre Beach Boys music is fun, but second to the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean stuff coming out at the time. Occasionally you get a real gem. Don't Run Away, My World Fell Down, Hey Little Cobra, all cool records he was a part of.

Oh and of course I know two of my three examples came when he was a Beach Boy but same point.

I think he plays drum on La Bamba, by Ritchie Valens, my grandmother's first cousin  ;D
