As I've been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd & Klaatu lately, I think about the creativity in the hip genre of space rock and it made me think about what 70s songs of the BB were hip enough to make a complete album. Perhaps one of their albums was hip enough, from beginning to end, but I tend to think not.
Obviously, this is more of a fan edit, but I'd love to hear what people would put on their mix...I have a feeling a lot of ecological ideal songs will be used. I honestly think it'll be easier to use songs from 70-73, rather than songs that I consider hip in another way, as in the Love You album.
When I get my mix completed, I'd prolly use a lot of snippets from songs like Tallahassee Lassie, the song of TM song (not the argument).

3. The Trader
4. Long Promised Road
5. All I Want to Do
6. Hold On Dear Brother
7. Feel Flows

This is what I would propose, though at 15 tracks, we are talking about a double album.

Slip on Through
It's About Time
All I Wanna Do
Long Promised Road
Feel Flows
'Til I Die
Surf's Up
You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone
Marcella
All This Is That
Sail On Sailor
Steamboat
The Trader
Leaving This Town
Hard Time [Bonus]

i was checkin Q's 1001 song playlist, essentially artists picked 10 songs for the biggest bands ever, then random like "70's soul" ten song list from one person etc.  one of the dude's from MGMT had to pick the ten psychedelic songs of the 70's, and he put "A Day In The Life of a Tree" on there.  i'd say that song is pretty hip.  and you gootta get a lot of Dennis on there.

also, Surf's Up.

and if you're curious, the guy from Grizzly Bear picked ten beach boys songs for the list, all from Pet Sounds or Smile recordings.  then the last page was the 1001th song (this wasn't a ranking), that Q picked as the song "no playlist should be without", and it was Good Vibrations.  Nice write up on it.

Nice to see that Q can stop fornicating over Lennon/McCartney just long enough to give the BB's some dues!

I guess it depends on what constitutes hip. This is a synth heavy BB comp that I recently put together, that's kind of BB at their most spacey.

All I Wanna Do
Feel Flows
Long Promised Road
A Day In The Life Of A Tree
Sweet Mountain
Steamboat
Funky Pretty
Fairytale Music (without narration)
Solar System
I'll Bet He's Nice

I have 3 Dennis tunes on my list; that's 20%. So we have Slip On Through, It's About Time and Steamboat, and he only sings on one of them. You also stipulated 70-73, so that is all I included. No Pet Sounds, no Smile, no pre 1970. Also, you said "hip", and so where is Surf's Up not hip? It's soft and mellow, but very hip. Except for Hard Time, I gave you officially released material that was actually listened to in those times. Also, these are tunes that my non-Beach Boys lovin' friends (all of them) would actually listen to that they thought were cool or hip during that time period.

They woulda been far more hip if they'd just released 'It's A New Day' as a single and to head an album. Was it a Dennis solo, or intended for the BBs?
