"Wipe out" charted quite high, I think.

That's surprising, as high as #2 in the UK. Would the Brits have remembered the Surfaris version, or maybe it was just the rap novelty. Oh well, The Beach Boys have a large and loyal fan base in the UK.

I have just started researching gay country (which is odd because I'm neither gay or a country fan) and here is what I came up with first:

http://www.queermusicheritage.us/mar2005.html

There's a lot of interesting history there and even a song to download for free ("Everytime He Sees Me" by Doug Stevens and the Outband).

So what would happen if after the Disney album Brian switches gears again and does some gay country? Would you buy it?

I'd buy it if it was an album of gay country duets with unlikely "partners" (in the musical sense, of course).

Say, George Michael, Charles Manson, George W. Bush, Slash, Orinoco Womble... I'm sure other smilers could come up with finer suggestions, and maybe a few songs too.

How about an entire gay country duet cd project with Brian Wilson and Gene Simmons?

Rumour has it that the following (real) country standards by the BBs and friends are lodged somewhere in Mike Love's vaults:

1. Get Your Tongue Outta My Mouth Cause I'm Kissing You Good-bye.

2. I Don't Know Whether To Kill Myself or Go Bowling.

3. If I Can't Be Number One In Your Life, Then Number Two On You.

4. I Sold A Car To A Guy Who Stole My Girl,
But It Don't Run So We're Even.

5. Mama Get A Hammer (There's A Fly On Daddy's Head).

6. If The Phone Don't Ring, You'll Know It's Me.

7. She's Actin' Single and I'm Drinkin' Doubles.

8. How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away.

9. I Keep Forgettin' I Forgot About You.

10. I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well.

11. I Still Miss You Baby, But My Aim's Gettin' Better.

12. I Wouldn't Take Her To A Dog Fight, Cause I'm Afraid She'd Win.

13. I'll Marry You Tomorrow, But Let's Honeymoon Tonight.

14. I'm So Miserable Without You; It's Like Having You Here.

15. I've Got Tears In My Ears From Lying On My Back Cryin' Over You.

16. If I Had Shot You When I Wanted To, I'd Be Out By Now.

17. My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, And I Don't Love You.

18. My Wife Ran Off With My Best Friend and I Sure Do Miss Him.

19. Please Bypass My Heart.

20. She Got The Ring and I Got The Finger.

21. You Done Tore Out My Heart and Stomped That Sucker Flat.

22. You're the Reason Our Kids Are So Ugly.

23. Her Teeth Were Stained, But Her Heart Was Pure.

24. She's Looking Better After Every Beer.

25. I Ain't Never Gone To Bed With An Ugly Woman, But I Sure Woke Up With a Few.
26. I Can't Get Over You, Until You Get Out From Under Him.

Rodney Crowell did it live (as seen in the DVD), but there's no documentation that there was any studio recording.

stealing this from a different Thread...

But how about Stars and Stripes 2  as a CD of the Beach Boys doing Country Rock songs???

"Don't Go Back To Rockville" (REM)                       - Mike lead
"Lyng Eyes" (Eagles)
"Wild Horses"  (The Flying Burrito Brothers)
"Only Love Can Break Your Heart" (Neil Young)    - Carl Lead
"Sunflower" (Glen Campbell)                                - Al lead
"Panama Red" (New Riders of the Purple Sage)   - Mike lead and Brian's Love You style Moogs
"Take It Easy"  (Eagles)
"Crazy Eyes" (Poco)                                             - Brian lead.. full Smile type production
"One Hundred Years From Now" (The Byrds)       - Al lead
"Shannon" (Henry Gross)                                     - Carl lead
"Fishin' In The Dark" (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)         - Mike lead
"Peaceful Easy Feeling" (Eagles)

I'd have played that a whole lot more then S&S1
without Carl however, I'd say this would never now work...
