I just watched Bicentennial Man and once again noticed a recurring piece of the theme which strongly reminded me of the refrain from "On The Run" ..from the most recent Mints album "Mind if We Make Love to You."
Is this borrowed from a classical piece? Coincidence? Its a beautiful melody........
Any takers on this?
Never heard of Bicentennial Man so I checked into that. It's by James Horner, a very popular composer for film over the past 40 years or so. This soundtrack was released in '99. As for similarity to "On the Run," I was just going to tell you to try to be more specific, as my casual listens to a few tracks on youtube weren't finding anything. But yeah, there at 1:09 of track 15 of the score, "Growing Old," is that melody. Probably coincidental--it's a simple diatonic melody in a natural minor scale. But sure enough, very similar.
So that is a Horner song. Also seems to me that I have heard that melody somewhere else other than the Mints song and the movie soundtrack. Had me thinking it was fron a classical piece.
Thanks for taking the time to check that out. I'll go back and find the Growing Old piece and have a listen.
By the way, I really enjoyed Bicentennial man and have watched it more than a couple of times over the years. Old school sci fi notions brought to the screen in a delightful way. IMO one of Robin Williams finest roles. Takes you on a two century ride. Based on a story by Asimov and directed by Chris Columbus.
