Then Dennis Wilson came in from The Beach Boys and he said, "Hey, Mr. Marx. It's an honor to meet you." Groucho looked at him, and obviously didn't know who he was and said," Well, it oughta be."

The only two entertainment acts I've been obsessed about is the Beach Boys and the Marx Brothers! This makes my day, as the two worlds collide.

Karen Lamm once showed me some photos of a dinner party she attended at Groucho's home...she said it was a weekly thing for awhile. I would imagine Dennis might have gone there with her.

Dennis absolutely loved the old Borscht Belt comedians, and never failed to hang out at the Stage Door Deli whenever we were in New York.  We'd go in late in the night and stay for hours, and it was straight out of Woody Allen's "Broadway Danny Rose".  There would be a huge table full of all the old faces from Ed Sullivan, and Dennis would usually wind up either kibitzing with them, or being the butt of their jokes!  I remember several bouts with Jack E. Leonard, (the original Don Rickles), with the two of them really going at it.  Dennis always got the short end though, but would walk out just beaming...

Thanks, Jon; it was great to have this memory pop up, although I have thought about it before, especially whenever I've caught B'way Danny Rose.  I was also surprised to see that Jack E. died in 1973, although we were still going there, at least as late as the week of the Radio City Music Hall gigs.  In fact, we took Christine there with us in the middle of the night during that week.  As I said, sometimes he'd interupt them, almost heckling them, just to get them to unleash on him.  I remember Jack E. Leonard one time saying something to the effect of, "This place has been going downhill ever since they started letting filthy hippies in!"  Sometimes  I just knew that they knew who he was, othertimes I think they really felt we were just filthy hippies!  (Although, at those prices...)
