Much as I can't stand the prick, he deserves to be on it -if just for his 70's work. The Beach Boys were one of the biggest bands of that decade and M.E.L. was a great frontman then! (Did I mention I can't stand the prick-oh that's right I did)... LOL

A few weeks ago in ASDA I saw the mag on the shelf. I ususally can't stand Q Magazine (written by the "The Beatles were best band of all time, 70's music was crap till Punk came along" idiot brigade) but the "100 Greatest Frontmen" headline caught my eye. I did wonder if Mike would make the grade in the eyes of these Coldplay/U2 obsessed fuckwits. Flipped it open and as luck would have it landed on the page with No 3 who was Freddie Mercury. Now what 2 could possibly top the Fredster who in my opinion WAS the greatest frontman of all time?  Gotta be "The Boss" or Peter Gabriel (shave a wrong way round Mohawk into your hair and dress up as a flower = genius) I'd say.
One flip of the page later.......

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!   Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry : Liam Gallagher? WTF???!!!! I must repeat that in much larger lettering.    WTF!!!

I threw the pile of crap back on shelf in disgust and went to vegetable section so I never did find out if Mr.L made the grade or not. I'd have put him in the top 20 I guess.

well Q loves oasis.  and was this voted on? i feel like anytime something is voted on in the UK, Oasis comes out on top somehow.  while i couldn't vote a number, if you asked me my fav...

no offense mr. beard, but i'd go with liam.

his voice might have gone to utter crap (which is a bummer cause it used to be awesome live), but he still goes for it usually.  what he loses in that voice i think he makes up in presence. LIAM IS THE MAAAN. like i look at this music video, which is mostly concert footage.  the adoration? liam just stands there and owns the whole stadium. LOVE it.

i haven't seen the list.  but was this mainly just for "singers"?  like the boss is awesome but he wrote songs and did guitars obv.  that's just my guess.  but more likely just cause Q readers voted and they're mad for oasis.  and liam rules. i just dig how he doesn't move around, or do much, but still is in total control of the show and everyone.

I always thought that Liam had the arrogance and the swagger but not the talent to back it up. Funnily enough there are no doubt people on here who would say exactly the same about a certain Mr.Love.......

i think liam has some talent.  or at least he's shown it.  I'm outta time is a surprisingly awesome song.  if that solo album is 10 "little james" then yeah he had one song.

i think you can count what these frontmen do as talent though.  but for Mike, honestly i'll give him more talent in lyric writing than as a frontman.

Jim Morrison has got to be in there somewhere.

here, there, and everywhere...speaking of frontmen, anybody see Jagger on Larry King Live last night? Quite an icon-looking forward to Brian's CD along with the re-release of EOMS with 6 unreleased tunes sometime in May.

Those lists are crap, complied by self-serious hacks who base their opinions as much on general consensus as on evidence of talent.

Mike deserves to be on there!

Those same idiots put Bon Scott (who obviously deserves it) on their list but not Brian Johnson. Nuff said!

If Liam wins then what about Noddy Holder?  Slade are Oasis with talent.

And surely to Christ Mike was way better?

I would submit that Mike might not qualify.

1. He has never been the primary lead singer.  He has always shared the duties.  On the "In concert LP" he is primary lead vocalist on only 4 of the songs.

2. It wasn't until the oldies took over that he was front and center.  Following Brian's departure from the road until the oldies took over the center spot was always taken by Carl.

3.  Although not a verbose bunch the other Beach Boys did their fair share of between song patter.  Carl and Al always said alot more than John Entwistle or Keith Richardfs

In 1974 Mike Love's concept album Endless Summer ignited a second generation of Beach Boys fans and stirred a comeback that rocked the music world.

Huge Oasis fan here.  Just had to give my love for Liam and the chief (Noel).  There is nothing more entertaining that watching a Noel Gallagher interview on Youtube.  He is so funny.  I cannot stand people who do not get the Oasis "humor."  The typical "oh they are such assholes."  Noel is god like. lol I think Noel has the courage to actually come out and say "I'm sorry, but this band (insert band name) is sh*t."   I think I have listened to Wibbling Rivarly a hundred times.  It never fails to crack me up.

On another note, one thing perplexes me about Noel.  He is such a major music fan and has good taste in bands/writers but he does not like the Beach Boys at ALL and was known to call Brian Wilson a "cabbage head." *sorry I laughed when I read that one too. Can't help it.  I mean the guy loves Bacharach but cannot find anything nice to say about the Beach Boys?  Very perplexing.

Let the fighting start.......now. lol

I think for Mike's (or anyone's) sake, it's better not to be listed in that rag.

Better to run around playing 800 seat Casino's -as something he is not, I guess, than be recognised for something he used to do well? Ya know, in band that actually exsisted? HE should be in the damn mag for his 73-79 work. He was good at it... WAS...When the band exsisted. police

Noel worships at the sacred altar of Lennon/McCartney far too much to be able to appreciate the talent of The Beach Boys.
