Hi, sorry if this is not a related enough topic for this area, but I was thinking of buying this deluxe new album, finally assembled and seeing official release, and had heard that it was very ambitious a la Smile. Opinions?

I just saw the thread about this in the general music discussions section. I'll
read that and maybe it will suffice and that is where I should have introduced this topic.

Sorry.

I'll just move it to the general board, and if you want to I'll merge it with the other topic.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

It's not  'their' anything really, but it IS a Jan Berry solo record with very little of his own vocals. Certainly not anywhere near the creativity of SMiLe, though, except for a few annoying sitar parts, it is a pretty typical J&D sounding record, which I think is good. The only SMiLe aspect is the 40 + years it took to be released. I still prefer Dean's solo J&D album a little more just for the moodiness, but Carnival is pretty good, especially if you consider it was recorded a year or so after Jan's debilitating car crash. The new CD sounds great, so if you're a fan of the J&D sound I'd consider ordering a copy today!
