Reading the numerous posts by chronic whinging of walls of silence, bitching about dissatisfaction of CD mixes and mastering, and in general the usual multiple sob-stories of how having 99 new releases a major pain to choose from, I thought I'd start a thread about the dark ages of fandom when we really _did_ have grounds to cry.

Who remembers 1984, when the only thing we had was the "Chasin' the Sky" on a not so easy to find LP, and "East Meets West" 45 which came out and promptly dissappeared? That on a start to the year which saw Dennis being buried at sea. What a great time.

I remember seeing the July 5 broadcast from the Queen Mary in 1981 on TV, live I believe it was. The infamous "Don't Worry Baby" broadcast. I was 16 and thought, I'm out. It had been a good 7 years since I'd gotten Endless Summer, but it felt time to move on. Down came the posters and the magazine clips from the walls....

Little did I realize how many more ups and downs there'd be. So I'm really enjoying the 2012 up.

December 1983.  I thought, man, the last 20 years went by fast, is it over already? Now its almost another 30 years later. And I just saw a great live half-century anniversary concert with four originals and an almost-original, which almost made it the good ol' days, under the circumstances, close enough, and nuthin' to complain about.

Can't imagine how after 20-30 years I'd do the same. I mean, remember old days... Damn, that thing upsets me. Sad
