This book is filled with great photographs. Definitely worth purchasing if you are interested in that. As far as historical information, you should start elsewhere. A nice addition to your Beach Boys library.

As I recall this was out as a coffee table book.  I kicked myself a hundred times for not buying it.  I haven't seen it since.

This is more of a musical critique and appreciation than a source of factual info. On that level, it suceeds as an enjoyable read that is colorfully written.  When it comes down to it, I can't really disagree with much of his views on their work either.

More or less my take. I gave it a 3 because, just looking at SMiLE, there's nothing egregiously wrong in what he says but there's some misleading and/or improperly editorialized quotes that rub me the wrong way and could give newbies the wrong idea about stuff. Again, nothing outrageous but there's far better sources of info out there, hence the middling rating
