Thought i'd share a scan for this book I got off ebay recently. It's an official biography written around 1977-1978. I was surprised with the SMiLE content so i've scanned the relevent pages & uploaded it as a pdf file.

Enjoy!

Actually I really like this book as he fully gets that Brian didn't go into 1975 mode right after Smile, and also the others are recognised for their talents. It's light weight in some respects, but some things are pretty on the spot. It's a very nice book picture wise as well.

Except for the front cover, that is. This must've been the time when The Beach Boys looked their downright worst as a group.

Not their best I agree but try the 1982 group shots or even worse the ones from Al's pony tail era.

I just looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove those illustrations... but having so many interview/article clips scattered throught the text with no attribution or dating whatsoever is close to criminal.

Are there any rare pictures? Anyone care to post some of them? I guess to ask for all would be too much...  Wink

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I didn't include any of the illustrations when I did the scans. Feel bad about that now, haha.
