Hi-I am going to write a follow up article about the BBs 77-96 apps. Some questions  1) What exactly was filmed of the M.I.U sessions in 1977 and where was the footage used?  2) The LA Tracks performance in 1979- anyone have more info on where that was filmed or where the footage was aired?  3) The Melbourne Australia 1978 performance-where was this aired in Australia?
Thanks for your help

Don't forget Christchurch NZ on the same tour in 78. Complete concert filmed, played once, now in TVNZ vault.

Well the 1979 footage was shown on various tv shows. That Japaneese interview from 1979 had them, check out you tube and you can find out some of that.

Alan Boyd discussed the MIU footage with me once. He says he sat through hours of it and much of what he saw was boring. One thing he did mention is that the session for She's Got Rythm with Dennis was in there. What circulates is a unaired TV special from 1978 called Our Team. It has live footage, recording at M.I.U. of things like Pitter Patter and Mike Come Back To LA, and Dennis in Seattle recording My Diane. It also shows footage of Dennis doing chairty work. Our Team aired at the 1979 Beach Boys convention. Otherwise it's just been booted.

Somebody really needs to find this, or at the least a copy.

As a new, young fan at the time and unfamiliar with the band, this was my first ever concert.

From memory the show was played once perhaps 1-2 months after this outdoor gig at QE2 stadium. It would have been NZ wide, I suspect colour (introduced 1974) but more than likely mono.

Pre home video recorders so unlikely anyone has a home copy.

Try TVNZ. In storage at Avalon, Wellington a  BBBritain poster reported. He saw the reel.

Wow....do you happen to remember any of it? Especially anything about Carl? I wonder if the "infamous" concert was filmed? The one that he later had to apologise for.

3) The Melbourne Australia 1978 performance-where was this aired in Australia?

The Beach Boys "Good Vibrations- From the Myer Music Bowl Melbourne" premiered on Channel 7, May 10, 1978. Not sure if it was a national broadcast or just confined to Melbourne.

That's probably what is circulating on bootleg. The Bootleg version cuts in ner the end of Lady Lynda.  If it's not the same thing, then I'd sell my mother to see it.  Grin

Do you know what? I would not have known who Carl was or any other member. I just remember a lot of local press at the time about this famous band called 'The Beach Boys' coming to town. I could have named 5 songs tops and they could have still have been wearing striped shirts and tight pants for all I knew. I do remember thinking they sounded nothing like their hits though.

Sorry.

That's it. I'm starting a collection. I think all of us Beach Boys fans on this messageboard should donate a little, untill we have enough money to buy a copy. Who's with me? If somebody needs a flight to wherever this footage is, I'll personally bankroll it. What do you think, Ian? Andrew?

Personally I think it's a shame that all Beach Boys footage isn't out. Even the 77-83 stuff where various Wilson's have substance problems is part of history. Film footage is really expensive to lease or license and it's a sad but true fact that most of these companies aren't going to make copies for a group of fans.

While I agree the true fans would lap it, I suspect the powers that be feel the Knebworth DVD covers that period and the market for a concert a few years either side of 1980 would be limited.

We had 'The Lost Concert' a few years ago and maybe there is a market for 'The Lost Years' kind of deal. A package of 68-78 performances.

Historically though I hope those with tapes, footage etc take care of them as of course they are priceless.

I think that the best shot would be if the BBs can ever all get on the same page and have a web site set up (BB Central) where you can obtain -direct downloads of rare tracks, streaming videos, Concerts, etc....Then maybe they could work out a deal-where the video is on demand

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
