this is a fairly useless and mindless thread, i admit

but goshdarn, if i am not amused by speeding up/slowing down their songs and basking in the warped beauty. 

my favorite is raising the entire thing about six semitones and raising the speed to 200%.

although, listening to the Smiley version of Heroes and Villains set about four semitones down gives them that deep, middle aged barber shop singers sound.

i strongly suggest everyone drops what they're doing right now and play around with this.

it relieves stress.

There used to be (and perhaps still is) a Windows Media Player plug-in that allowed you to do that, and it was indeed cool to play with.  I never really messed with the speeds, but I always found it interesting to hear songs in different keys.

there's a few programs or plug ins you can find if you don't have other audio editing programs to do this with, but it's definitely a neat little thing to play around with for kicks.

it's also useful for learning songs by ear.

btw, sped up 40% and raised 4 semitones... Smiley Smile becomes the greatest album by seven year olds ever.
