Hi all.

I'm thinking of buying the limited edition 2008 vinyl re-issue of "Endless Summer". Does anybody have it? And does it have those awful duophonic mixes on it or the original mono mixes?

Thanks

I wondered that too.

Top of my head, can't recall... but if they're using the 1974 master, it'll have the wrong (i.e. album) versions of "Be True..." and "Rhonda".

I don't have this but given that it's a limited 2008 release, I'd be willing to bet that it's digitally sourced from the cd master.

I've ordered the Endless Summer vinyl. I'll let you all know if it includes the vintage duophonic mixes. I hope it doesn't! I 've got loads of duophonic Beach Boys tracks including a mono duophonic fold down of Pet Sounds! Ikid you not! I've done comparison listenings against my mono Pet Sounds/Carl And The Passions edition and a proper duophonic Pet Sounds and the duophonic  mono fold down sounds the worst of the lot! I've also got Today! album under the name of Do You Wanna Dance in glorious duophonic. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THOSE PESKY MIXES Angry I've got a lovely mono smiley smile though... Smiley

Thanks for the replies so far

BTW didn't Steve Hoffman remix Endless Summer for CD at some point?

This might be heresy, but I prefer duophonic to mono, but its still nowhere near as good as stereo.

And does the new vinyl reissue have sides 1 and 4 on one disc and sides 2 and 3 on the other like the 70s version.

Remaster, not remix.

I've just had a quick listen with headphones on. There are some true stereo mixes, some definite mono mixes and then some...well...gee...i dunno...the rest sound a little "processed". It's definitely not got any of those bloody awful extra echoey duophonic mixes anyway. The true mono and stereo mixes sound lovely. The (in my opinion) "processed" tracks lack the clarity of the others. There may be some extra reverb on them.

Anyway it's a great album. I'm dead pleased with it. And record 1 has sides 1 and 4 on it and record 2 has sides 2 and 3. And it's got the album versions of "Be True To Your School" and "Help Me Ronda" on it as AGD noted earlier.

I'm off to give it a "proper" listen now.

Thanks for indulging my ramblings

I've revised my opinion. The processed tracks no longer sound processed. They are mono. I think they sounded different cos I'd been listening to the tracks in question on my MP3 player on my way home from work and now I'm hearing them in their full vinyl analogue glory.

I definitely recommend buying this re-issue.

Cheers

Unfortunately Good Vibes isn't on it. Still a great compilation though. I did notice that that my copy sounds slightly duller than some other records I played on my Friday night vinyl session. Especially compared to Beach Boys Love You unless that is a particularly bright sounding record.
