Brian & Marilyn's marriage

In that interview Brian said his marriage was bad.
I've forgotten a lot of what I read about his life but I was always under the impression that, although they married young and Brian had his eyes on other women at times, their married life went pretty smoothly (or as smoothly as it could go being married to Brian Wilson)? I recall reading that Marilyn said she got no lovin' from him after a certain time.
So what was so bad about it?
P.S., Marilyn was quite the looker, I think. I could see how some wouldn't find her very attractive though - I read a funny comment somewhere suggesting that the photographer for one of the Honeys' shoots told the girls to rest their heads on their hands to create the impression of having chins.
But in some pics she looks great. I'd love just once to see her in the nude.

Again, Brian talking out of his ass. The man should have been thankful that she put up with all his bullshit for as long as she did.

Well, his new wife might've been around the corner.
Gotta keep the woman happy if she's baking the pies.

Those two interview sections are amazing. I don't think I've ever seen Brian more receptive to uncomfortable questions. And he really can't tell a lie, can he?

That interviewer, who could've passed for van Dyke Park's brother, really tried. He really tried.
The title of this thread, based on the interviews, is about Brian's marriage. But, what I got out of it, was, at that particular time, Brian being more a Beach Boy and less a solo artist.

There's a part, I forgot where it is now unless I re-watch, where Brian smiles then stops smiling, then smiles again and stops, and then smiles once more and stops. It's a weird little moment, and it doesn't show the interviewer who might've been giving a blank face and not picking up on the mood Brian was trying to convey...
If you want to see an interview where Brian is really on the ball, charming as a motherfucker, and sharp as a needle, check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foblzCY2a6k
There's something to be said about how that host/cook basically speaks to Brian in an ordinary way, as one viewer mentioned. Lots of interviewers treat him like he's retarded which is an incredible insult to his intelligence.

Somewhat related: Wendy Wilson is sexy. Or was. Maybe she still is. Carnie... not so much. I'm not into BBW.

Here's a clip of her on some TV show. It's kinda cool because you can spot mommy Marilyn in the audience - in much the same way she's in the video of the Beach Boys performing "Surfer Girl" (she may be seen in other shots too, I don't know) in 1964 or whenever it was. How time adds double chins to the ladies!

In the 1998 interview, there's a section where they show a piece of a Beach Boys music video... looks to be late 1980s or early 1990s. Its around the :33 mark on the video. What song is this? Its not familiar to me.

I sympathise immensely with him when it comes to interviews. they condescend a bit (but you can't really blame them, the man has got mental problems) but he's been asked about pet sounds, california girls, Smile, for forty years. Who wouldn't get bored? Almost every other remaining 60's pop star gets to talk about the world, politics, their latest record, whatever, but with Brian it's just 'hey, what's living in California like?'. It's so annoying.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.

If we're thinking of the same clip, then that's their cover of "Hot Fun in the Summertime" from the Summer In Paradise album.

The impression I got from the film, was that although Brian & Marilyn's marriage was 'bad', Brian blamed himself for that, not Marilyn. I think he was expressing remorse, and trying to do things better the second time around.
I didn't think this was as much bs as most of his interviews are. He talked less about 'what's your favorite bb song' and the like here.

In The King interview, Melinda makes a comment saying how they lived so close to UCLA , where the best psych doctors in the world were and basically Marilyn did nothing to try to help him out. Although, even the best psych doctors in the 70's were not even close to what we have now. In probably his most emotional statement of the night, Brian stops her and bascially said Marilyn did the best she could at the time and she loved him.

I distinctly remember that part of the interview....Brian really jumped to Marilyn's defense there, and quickly. I think Melinda was out of line to indirectly insult Marilyn like that.

Nice to see he puts his woman in place.
I hate all the divorce bullshit that everyone goes through and does. Always exaggerating things to impress/gain sympathy from the new one.

Man, that part about Carl's death was tough. To hear Brian say "we lost him".

It makes me wonder, has Brian really confronted/dealt with Carl's death. On the A&E Biography show, Brian starts talking about it, then abruptly says "f*** it".

Brian didn't give me the impression he was putting Marilyn down with the bad marriage comment either, right after that he gave her all the credit for raising Carnie and Wendy. I definitely got more of a feeling he was blaming himself.
The part about Carl & Dennis, too sad
I know at the time of that interview Carl had just passed, but I've always wondered why Brian seems to talk more about Carl and his death than he talks about Dennis

maybe because dennis' death was an accident and carl's was an illness. different mentality goes with dealing with understanding each.

I think any and every one around Dennis in 1983 knew that he didn't have long left. A shock, but not really a surprise. Plus, Dennis' passing was some 15 years earlier.
