Brian's year with Kevin S. Leslie
«

Perhaps this period in Brian's life has been documented elsewhere and I missed it. I'm referring to the year during which Leslie lived with Brian, after Landy was kicked out. What was the relationship between Brian and Kevin? Was Landy still pulling the strings? Are there any interesting stories to be known? What are the whereabouts of Leslie these days?

1992 does seem like a lost year doesn't it? I guess he was writing with Paley a little. Gaining some weight, smoking, I think Landy still had control secretly and then Keven was kicked out once this was discovered. That's all I really know about that year for Brian anyway.

I thought I had heard that Landy showed up at a birthday party for Brian, and that is when Leslie was kicked out completely.
It would be interesting to find out Leslie's take on the whole Landy period. I have never heard of him being interviewed.

Now, be honest, how many of you would've quit your jobs in a second to take a job like Kevin Leslie had?

Best I recall, he was dubbed that by the press because he was pretty obnoxious. That said, 'surf nazi' was a phrase Cameron Crowe used in his 1981 book

Actually AGD the term "surf nazi" has been part of colloquial surf speak since the 50s and refers to any surfer who is over zealous in their devotion to their sport - I live in a "surf nazi" town. The other link is that California surfers in the late 50s/early 60s thought it was an amusing idea to get dressed up in old war surplus German uniforms (Prince Harry style). Also, if I recall correctly, their might also be "surf nazi" references in Tom Wolfes' "The Pump House Gang" - although I have no intention of going to the library and re-reading the book just to verify my recollection.

Right. Just check out the old footage in Riding Giants, or whatever its called, where GREG KNOLL and buddies do just that.
