My TIVO alert just captured this--and good thing--Brian's going to be on the PBS program Tavis Smiley tonight. I'm reasonably certain this is not a rerun--if it is please excuse me...I will post my thoughts on it after I view it...In any even there has been no talk of this!!

I like the Beatles a bit more than the Boys of Beach, I think Brian's band is the tops---really amazing. And finally, I'm liberal. That's it.

I really don't understand why Brian's management pushes him to do interviews. He's clearly uncomfortable in just about every interview and he does not engage in a dialogue, frequently making only word answers. Give the guy a break, let him make music and avoid the press.

I just saw it, & it seemed to me like Brian enjoyed being there, especially when he started talking about writing a new song the day before.
Actually, right before that, Tavis asked about Brian going back & hibernating; Brian then yelped, "No! No! No!" That made me smile. He became much more engaged, talking about how he sits at his piano/synthesizer as inspiration strikes him. Unfortunately, the interview ended shortly after that. I know it was good for the general public to see Brian saying more than 2 or 3 words for a change.
Tavis has a lot of respect for Brian, which came through in the interview.

Did Brian mention the name of the song or did he play/sing a part of it or something?

Mikeyj & Phirnis,
No, Brian didn't mention anything about Pleasure Island or the name of the song he just wrote. Like I said, the interview was too short. He had another guest, mayor of New York, so Brian only got about 10 minutes. They bookended his interview with scenes from the new TLOS DVD, which was why Brian was there. Tavis did say he enjoyed the title song, "Lucky Old Sun."

For a 21st Century Brian interview this was good. He was pretty relaxed, and in fairly good humor. Him being alone and without a studio audience maybe made him feel at ease. I was glad they showed the LP version of course. I think the new DVD will be pretty good if they present the whole LOS segment live.

hmm.. worked for me.. they have the transcript on the video page as well. I enjoyed the interview! Brian started a little timid but he got more comfortable. I found myself very tense till about half way through

It says his name is Brian Williams. I guess NBC will have something to say about that.

For all future Brian Wilson interviews, there should be a special procedure put in place. After Brian is asked a question, it should be mandatory that he wait a full two minutes before he answers the question. He must THINK of an intelligent response that actually answers the question instead of saying NOTHING!
