I was jus thinkin bout how the Beach Boys success came and went in waves; They had their golden era or whatever you wanna call it from '62 through '67; then somewhat of a commercial slump in the US in the late 60s but were huge in the UK; put out a lot of great records in the late 60s/early 70s that didn't get the attention they deserved; got huge again in the mid 70s and then later on even though they continued to release albums they were really weak for the most part and their success pretty much relied on their nostalgic appeal...

They began to have an underground appeal around 71 til maybe 74. Then Endless Summer came out to make them a mainstream draw again. Continued through 76 with the return of Brian on stage. It seems that they slipped a bit from there. Although never as bad as the 68-73 era. Then in the late 80s with the masterpiece Kokamo Smiley I guess put them on top again briefly. Then I think with releases of the Pet Sounds box set, and Brian's solo tours, there has been a growth of appreciation for the Beach Boys deeper cuts. Although competing against Full House and Home Improvement type things.

"Over the years, I've been accused of not supporting our new music from this era (67-73) and just wanting to play our hits. That's complete b.s......I was also, as the front man, the one promoting these songs onstage and have the scars to show for it."

Fans would take it easy on Kokomo if BW's name was among its co-writers.
