In case anybody missed it, Pacific Ocean Blue was named Rolling Stone magazine's Reissue of the Year for 2008. Add that to Reissue of the Year in Mojo, Uncut and the London Observer. Nice.

Remarkable indeed. I distinctly recall how it got slagged off in the then premier Dutch pop mag 'OOR'. This very opportunistic mag had just discovered punk, mind, and it jumped on that particular bandwagon with great zeal.
Funny how things change over time. No one recalls 'God's Lonely Men' by the Lurkers anymore, nor those adventurous Alternative TV or UK Subs or 999 efforts.
Revenge is a dish best served cold...

Ah yes, Oor 1977. I read that as well (and still have it lying around somewhere). There was also a review on Rikki Martin's Beached LP, which was more positive, and which was another reason to continue the burning down of POB.
Recently read their review of the reissue. They were - ehm - mild this time...
I was tempted to send them a remark (+ a scan of the original article) on their "objective and well-thought-of words" (like "this should be forbidden" and other words that won't even pass the censure-filter) they spitted out at the time, but decided not to... wasn't worth the trouble.

I can see why you didn't. OOR has a tendency to 'go with the fads of the times' in a very manic manner. The mag changed again in the early '80s, when it became sort of a fanzine for and of the Amsterdam squatters/coke addicts scenes... shameful. I threw away my old stock off OORs and don't regret it.
MOJO (from 1993 to 2000) was the best worldwide IMHO (but then it faltered and gave in to the
vox pop
more every week;
and (what not many people know) German Rolling Stone was and is outstanding (it is a sister mag to the USA RS, but it is sooooo much better and completely independent in editorial policies. Trouble is, it's not distributed in Holland anymore, because so few people read German nowadays. Shame.

This is great news... I really can't believe how well the Dennis set has done!! Surely we have to be seeing some more Denny stuff in the near future?

No. I have it on good authority that Michael 'Mikey' Love has set all wheels into motion, following on in the slipstream of Dennis' success. He struck a deal to release remastered versions of Unleash The Love and Country Love with bonus cuts and a lavish booklet. He wants to get all the re-release kudos next year, the same way Denny did just now.

I think I bought a few German RS's some years ago when there was a 2-part article on VDP. Not bad indeed.

not quite the same league as Rolling Stone, but the Brisbane (Oz) newspaper also named POB re-issue of the year on the weekend.

It's unanimous, then. POB/Bambu IS the re-release of the year!

The defining moment for me was seeing it sold out on amazon.com on the day of release.

Well, you know why POB/Bambu was a hit: "Only With You" and "Pacific Ocean Blues". If they could only find a way to include "Sound of Free" in the next release, they have another winner.

No one deserves it more than Dennis. I know I did my part -- I bought 7 CD's and 2 albums.
I just think it's sad that Dennis isn't here to see the recognition he's getting.

Wow! Unanimous indeed! Denny has a SMiLE a mile wide, wherever he is!
Didn't realize that it was in the German Rolling Stone (or that there was one). A little ironic,
considering the American version's smug dismissal of the Beach Boys in the late '60s/early '70s,
but that had nothing to do with the Germans (I'm mostly German) and I suppose is water
under the bridge anyway.
