That's all! It's just the greatest. Anyone who moans about how manipulated Brian now is, and how much of a pale imitation his writing skills now are, ought to have a good listen to this song. It's so obviously a Brian composition and is so joyous that it ranks right up there with my favourite of his compositions, and makes me happy to think he still has a bit of that Wilson magic.

Plus it has some great (in a sort of corny Brian Wilson style) lyrics:

"A Troubadour will always score, and bring the finest tune, to chase away your blues. Dust off your dancing shoes!!"

Did Scott write these words? Not sure. They sound more Brian to me but they're great whatever.

Just Like Me and You is also pretty frickin ace. Why he didn't dump Forever She'll be my Surfer Girl or Mexican Girl and use these instead is beyond me. I am praying there are more songs in a similar vein to MM and JLM&Y on the next album, if there is one of course.

OK so this didn't warrant it's own topic, so in a vain attempt to stop it sinking without a trace or being deleted by the mods I'll ask:

Who thinks Brian still has it, and if you do which of his new songs confirm this belief?

He still has enough of "it" to warrant him keep going if he is enjoying himself and not getting bogged down. As for TLOS - loved it live, but I'm less keen on the song cycle as an album, for some reason.  Maybe there are a lot of good songs but I suspect that some are a bit slight and overcooked in parts. I like all of it live, the 2 you mentioned are weaker than the others though. Would like to see him continue to tour, try out new songs, more rarities, covers as well. Maybe even a residency somewhere comfortable for him, where he can do the campfire thing, with friends. I guess he could charge a lot of money for that.

I would love a 10-12 track album of songs like Message Man. Brian should tour the 'Love You' album to get him in the mood, then hire a therapist to lock him in a room for an afternoon and reward him with a tofu-burger and health-shake for every song he writes.

But seriously, the stripped-down music really lets the "brian-ness" come out in a way that gets crowded on his solo albums. It's that "brian-ness" that i want to hear from him.

I would bet that an album of "Message Men" wouldn't get a major label behind it, and it wouldn't make the charts like TLOS did, but it would probably be more artitstically satisfying to his fans, and, according to the sales figures, who buys his albums anyway apart from his fans.

Record the album, put it out on CD, download and ltd vinyl via a website and make a little money.

Similar story here. Plus some of the bonus tracks weren't an option unless you lived in a particular country (at least for brick & mortar purchases). I would love to be able to hear these bonus tracks ...

Count me in as well. While I do think it's nice of Brian/his management to release all this extra material, it would be even nicer if it was easily available...

And yes, I think Brian still has it! Smiley Evidence: The entire Lucky Old Sun, but especially MAD, Going Home and Live Let Live.

...All the people who bought "Lucky Old Sun" who wouldn't buy an album like this?  :-)

I love "Message Man", it just sweeps any attempt at cynicism away.  But I think the model it fits into isn't Love You, but Beach Boys Party!  I can see the current band playing it as part of a stripped-down semi-unplugged set, like the first act of the Smile tour...

I'm not such a big fan of Message Man, but I think it's OK. And it's certainly a good thing in my opinion that he wrote (or co-wrote ... whatever) and recorded and released (more or less) it. I've said it a million times and so this can be a million and one: I wish he would write whenever he wants and release whatever he wants, one-off, EP, album, whatever. Doesn't matter. The same people are guaranteed to buy, so at the very minimum there's no sensible reason not to do online-only songs for purchase if and when he wants. Plus, it removes some of the critical pressure to release "Brian Wilson albums." Not everything has to be an event, a masterpiece. You can (well, he can ... I don't know if YOU can) just make songs.

I love Message Man, it's one of my favourites of the TLOS collection and is a more 'pure' Brian song than anything i've heard in a long time. As soon as I heard the intro I thought 'This is Brian'. I love the ending too with the different vocal bits, I'm not sure where it would have fitted on the album but I sure like it than half of the rest of the album for sure.
I know its  been suggested that its a remake of 'Market Place' but aside from the phrasing and notes of the titles in both songs there is nothing musically similar about them at all.

Absolutely agreed - I think it's a very misleading comparison. Totally different songs.

Yes, but every time there is anything remotely similar around here, people start talking about Brian revisiting something or other. f***, there are only 12 notes you can use...

I had to "obain" them. Even by order I wasn't able to find the Best Buy version; and you cannot download from iTunes in the country I live in. I would have gladly paid for them, though.

And yes, Brian has still got it--he always had it, I think he was just rusty for a while. I hope he continues to make more music on a par with what he did in 2008 for for awhile.
