not that i don't love em but mike and bruce have always reminded me of mr burns and smithers.
i can see them still touring in the year 9000.. i don't know if you remember the scene
mike: "oh brian, i know i say this every century, but i'll never neglect your input again"
bruce: "wait for me, sir!"
in an abstract way, i guess that's my answer to why bruce wears a hat.

His hairline has definitely receded over the years. We know Mike is bald because we've seen pictures throughout the decades without him wearing a hat. If Bruce's baldness just happened recently, we may never see a picture of it.
