Stumbled on this and was wondering if anyone remembers the complete presentation. This clip is incomplete.
About 1 minute in the band comes onstage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zaxvk0gjGXQ
Brians enters from other side.
Brian holds out to shake hands with his band mates...No takers!
Mike appears to guide (push) Brian from the microphone.
I guess in early 88 word was out that Brian was going to make a solo album that must have caused some resentment but just how bad were things between Brian/ Landy and the rest of the band and was it obvious during Mikes speech?
...and is that the silliest hat of Mikes career?

Yea no takers on hand shakes..Interesting..I have a concert video from 70"s..Good show + Dennis is buzzed but not out of hand..They are singing a slow song Or Dennis is talkin to audience..I forget..And DW leans up against electric piano behind him...Well it wont support his weight + starts to move + DW starts to fall .. You clearly see Mike movin the other way.. To let him fall.. Whats sad is.. Every video i have clearly shows DW affection for ML..When singing slow songs allways tryin to make eye contact with Mike..

I think it's because Denny had such a big heart and Mike's was a goldmine...anyone hate when your out-of-sync friends mistake Mike Love for everyone in the band? like, "hey, Brian Wilson is cool...." "Is he the guy with the cool hats?" sigh

Oh boy, you folks surely read a lot in three seconds of footage. What's next, figuring that Brian will eventually offer cocaine to little Carnie in homevideos?

Brian does hold out to shake hands for about a second or two, and clearly none of the guys notice it. So I agree, it doesn't really say anything. And I really doubt that Carl would refuse his brother's hand in public, just because he's making a solo album...

Fair enough.
Just wondering what the feelings towards Brian were like at the time as his 'book' has been so discredited.
I would liked to have seen the rest of the speech as this award was only a few days after the infamous R and R Hall of Fame speech...hence the hard-hat.

I think it looked more as if Brian tried to shake DLR's hand

Now, that's the goofiest hat I've ever seen Mike wearing! And he grew his beard back!
