I have read many times about Capitol Records undercutting Pet Sounds with the lack of a second single release until July 1966.  However, I was reading a tiny clipping from Look Listen Smile Vibrate that takes about Capitol waiting for Good Vibrations to be finished after the release of Pet Sounds, and finally giving up on Good Vibrations and releasing Wouldn't It Be Nice/God Only Knows instead.  To me, this seems to vindicate Capitol, though I still think they are guilty of under cutting Pet Sounds with the Best of The Beach Boys release in July 1966.

I bet BW told Capitol to wait for Good Vibrations for the next single release, and they complied during the crucial month and a half post-Pet Sounds release, then either by BW's direction or by their own choice, they released the obvious single Wouldn't It Be Nice.  Does this theory hold any water?

Sounds good to me.
