Hello all. I am starting this topic to see what's out there. The following are included in my Beach Boys / Brian Wilson 5.1 collection:

BRIAN WILSON AUDIO-ONLY:
- Imagination 5.1 DTS CD
THE BEACH BOYS AUDIO-ONLY:
- Pet Sounds 5.1 DVD-Audio
...and the 7 tracks in 5.1 that are included on the Endless Harmony doc.

I am hoping that there were quadraphonic releases of some of the BBs' 1970s albums...

Besides those two albums and Live At The Roxy (which I don't own on DVD-Audio yet), the only other Beach Boys related surround releases  out there seem to be video concert DVDs that include 5.1. I read a while back about an upcoming release of "Surf's Up," the 1971 album on DVD-Audio, and the inclusion of "Long Promised Road" and "Surf's Up" on the Endless Harmony DVD, as remixed in 5.1 by Mark Linnett, point to the fact that there was most likely some work done on a 5.1 version of "Surf's Up."

Likewise, the inclusion of "Heroes and Villains" from Brian Wilson Presents SMiLe in 5.1 (only as the menu music on the DVD) shows that Linnet began work on a 5.1 version of BWPS. I believe I read somewhere that Linnet hoped to be able to put out a DVD-Audio version of SMiLe. If ANY album would benefit from 5.1 it would be BWPS, and it is a shame that we may never hear it in surround... although the live version is great on the DVD...

What it comes down to, is that the only studio Brian Wilson album we have in surround is Imagination (I like the album, but of course, I am not a fan of the remakes and Joe Thomas' production.) The only Beach Boys album we have in surround/hi-def is Pet Sounds (Thank God we at least have that.) The only Beach Boys tracks in existence that have been mixed into surround are Pet Sounds, the bonus tracks from Pet Sounds, and the 7 or so tracks from the Endless Harmony DVD.

DOES ANYONE know of any quadraphonic Beach Boys releases in the 70's? Anyone know of any upcoming releases of Brian or The Beach Boys' studio stuff in 5.1?

OK - Well, according to this Quad discography site, there are 2 tracks on Sunflower, and the whole album of Surf's Up, available in Quad on Vinyl... anyone come across them or own them? I own Live At The Roxy on CD - is the 5.1 DVD-Audio worth it?

THE BEACH BOYS -
   Sunflower. Reprise RS-6382 (DY)
{Only two cuts, "Cool, Cool Water" & "Got to know the woman" are
 encoded}
   Surfs Up. Reprise RS-6453 (DY), WEA RS6453 (DY) [Canada],
   EMI/Capitol 7243 8 21945 1 4 (DY) [England] (180-gram virgin
   vinyl, and analog cutting from the original analog tape, Part of
   EMI's 100th-anniversary celebration, 1997)
{The titles above were released only in quad, no stereo version known}

You're right - Carl & The Passions was mixed in Dynaquad, which worked as both Quad and regular Stereo. I wonder if the CD will decode as quad, too?

Does anyone think SMiLe will ever come out in a true audiophile format? Even a high-res stereo mix?? I certainly hope so...
