As a historian, I have found that whenever one does research into any subject they usually find more questions than answers.   The reason that new books are continually written on the same subjects is because "the facts" are never gathered together satisfactorily in one place, to satisfy all parties.
Problems present themselves with Keith Badman's research on the group's European  Tour of June 1969.   I assumed that Mr. Badman's strong suit was European Beach Boy history and that his info on British and European tours would be beyond reproach-but this is not the case.   While perusing my copy of the June 14 1969 NME I found that the 2 Finsbury Astoria concerts listed by Keith as played on June 10 1969 with Marmalade actually were scheduled for the end of the tour- they were played on June 22 1969.  Furthermore, the group had been touring with Paul Revere and the Raiders and the only reason that they played these shows with Marmalade was because Revere and the Raiders had to return to the states.  So a new problem- if Paul Revere and the Raiders returned to the states before June 22, then there is no way that they played a June 24 show in Belgium or taped a TV show on June 30 1969.  Well-you may say-perhaps they returned to Europe a few days later. They didn't.  Also-Keith lists the Raiders-Beach Boys TV show as taped on June 30 1969- besides the fact that the Raiders were not there, Mike Love was already in New York.  How do you know this Ian?-you may well ask.  In a special issue of Billboard from 1976-there is a 15 page pullout section celebrating the BBs 15th anniversary. Amongst the items reprinted is a copy of Mike Love's 1969-75 passport- it shows that Mr Love cleared New York customs on June 29 1969- hence he was back in the states a day before Mr. Badman says the show was taped.   What about the Brussels show on June 24?  If one peruses the NME from May 24 1969 the group was scheduled to play in Brussels on June 3 1969- most likely this was the date of that show.  So-it appears that the tour ended on June 22 and then Mike spent some time at the Brighton Meditation center.  This is not meant as an attack per se on Mr Badman-but it is meant to illustrate that fans should not use dates in that book without caution.  I myself was guilty of that when I first started posting years ago- and I have learned to my chagrin that one must go back and look it up themselves.  Caveat Emptor

This is why I will never purchase the Badman book. I've heard so many horrible things about it.

Aegir-while the book has many date errors-it is still a compendium of quite a bit of otherwise difficult to find interviews, articles, facts, trivia, etc- and it has many cool photos. Plus-while many dates have problems, many are accurate-so I do recommend it.  Also-while some dates are wrong-you now have the Gigs/Sessions section of Bellagio to provide corrections-so I'd buy it and a sharpie to cross out and amend dates (if you really care)

The Raiders had their own show in '68/69 post Where The Action Is(Action aired in ' 65 and '66)...the raiders show was called "Happening" and then "Happening '69" the second season...this is the show the Beach Boys were on. The BB's were never on Action other than a CW interview segment.
