Around 50% of US restaurants fail in thier first year of operation (excluding franchises).

I wonder if they'll be serving the H.E.L.P. type menu?

And the name of the restaurant?
"Brian Wilson's Surfin' Beach Party"

And yes, that's real.

Scroll down a bit...
http://retail.freedomblogging.com/2007/11/15/whos-coming-to-gardenwalk/

So let's take some liberties on what's going to be on the menu.
2lb Surfin' Steaks ?
Spector's Spaghetti"
Pet Salmon?
Carl's Crabcakes??

Really...I can go on... Undecided

I hate to be negative, but that's a terrible name for a restaurant.  Especially if you want it to last more than a year.  Let's hope that they have a great menu and atmosphere to make up for that.

Crazy name aside, as a proud server for 9 years, I can definitely say that if I ever moved up to OC, I would definitely apply for a position!

Carl's Crabcakes??

Actually, Dennis' Crabcakes would be more appropriate, considering his lifestyle...

Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson picked GardenWalk to debut the first of 10 restaurants bearing his name.

Dumb move IMO.
45 Years too late on the BB/ Surf craze. Brian does not have the charisma to meet and greet, shmooze etc. Mike could manage but the time has passed for any of the band members to pull this off.
Celebrity restaurants, once the novelty has worn off, do not last.

"Brian Wilson's Surfin' Beach Party"... Pathetic.  Roll Eyes

And I'm not going there unless juicy steaks and birthday cake are compulsory. That is, if the restaurant doesn't bomb. And I think it will.  Tongue

Sounds like a bit of dodgy advice re the name.

Surfin' !!!
Beach !!!
Party!!!

but, you never know. it may take a gothic approach, full of weed-smoking ornamental devices, mystical tent areas and fire hydrants for tables. But then again, there's 10 of them...

The whole GardenWalk thing sounds like a bad idea to me. With Downtown Disney just five minutes away, why would anyone bother with another Anaheim destination featuring themed restaurants and specialty shops? The Downtown Disney/Universal CityWalk projects have worked because they're tied into existing theme parks, but this...I hope I proved wrong.

I wonder where the other nine locations will be for Brian's Hookah Tent SMiLE Party restaurant? Universal's two CityWalks, Vegas, Mall Of America, Tokyo?

In that case give the same amount that it will cost for ten restaurants away to charity and forget the stress.

As mentioned above, what happened to Mikes Club Kokomo?
Is this it? LOL

did you ever go to club kokomo eric?!? or anyone here for that matter...i've read the press release and i must admit that i fancied myself something from the good vibrations juice and smoothie bar.

maybe brian's place will kind of be like that rusty's surf shack where dave marks played in santa monica..

having been to tokyo, i am going to have to say that if a restaurant called "Brian Wilson's Surfin' Beach Party" was opened there, one could bet that it would be fairly successful. based one part on the fact that they seem to love seemingly random and nonsensical novelty expressions such as
Surfin' !!!
Beach !!!
Party!!!
...but also based partly on the act that they love Brian Wilson in Japan. having been record shopping in Japan, i must say i came across plenty of BW/BB related stuff that i haven't come across before or since. so to end my two cents, bw's restaurant being successful in the states seems like a dubious possibility but i could totally see it going over in old nihon...haha

In the early 90"s in Hermosa beach there was a club resteraunt called..Beach Boys cafe.. Bar + food + live music.. ..Very nice place with lots of memorabilia on the walls..BB showed up for opening.. Ive still got a t-shirt from that place.. It closed in a year..I heard someone connected to BB opened the place with BB full  blessing...I was there In 92 a few times..

Maybe that's why all his real estate is being sold?  To finance this?  The only reasons I can think of to open this chain are:

1.  Melinda thinks it's a great idea to immortalize Brian's name, should the restaurants be successful.
2.  It was a friend of Brian's idea.
3.  Both of the above are true.

I'm thinking of Jimmy Buffet's success with the Bar/Rest/burger/t shirt places.  Course those birds are awfullly cute!  Don't know if Brian's insane t shirts would selll as well.

Personally, I think the Coke/Chicago style logo is undercommercialized.   I'd pay a few bucks for a t shirt or high quality license plate with that logo.

But, I digress.

But are there as many Brianheads as Parrotheads? Jimmy can fill large halls and ampitheatres with his costumed followers.  Plus, he lives in Key West, where Margaritaville is headquartered, and his residency combined with the tourist trap atmosphere of Duvall St. is a great fit.  In fact, Jimmy was hanging out in front of the place when I visited Key West several years ago.  You can't go into a bar down there without hearing someone covering "Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude."  While Brian's music is a national treasure, I'm not sure there's a personal association there.  Nor an image that can be promoted as a theme restaurant.  Surfing music is very retro, while the tropical paradise theme of Margaritaville is more timeless.   I also believe that Margaritaville hasn't done well as a chain; it has closed at least one location that I'm aware of.
