As we all know (some from the great books by Jon, Peter, Tim and David) the BB in the early 80's nearly self destructed. With Carl gone and Dennis & Brian sliding down the long path of self destruction, they are lucky to have survived it all. As an observer at the time (doing some interviews with them at the time as a radio station intern), it was heart breaking. Here is a visual I found that seems to bring it home. It is the 1981 Beach Boys:

One of the last times Mike and Dennis could stand together and not kill each other. Is Mike going on a jungle safari with that outfit?? He looks like the late Crocodile Hunter

Very sad picture. Brian is who-knows-where (by the looks of him), Dennis is clearly declining and worst of all, Carl is absent. Bruce smiles for the camera through it all. It isn't the Beach Boys. Of course, for me, it has rarely been the Beach Boys (on recordings) since 1973 and never (at all) since Dennis died.

I wouldn't be surprised if he sued the Crocodile Hunter for stealing his outfit....I know, I know...I'll stop...I'll behave.... Roll Eyes Cheesy

Thanks for the photo, petsite.  I had not seen that picture before. Feel free (please!) to share ANY stories you might have in meeting the group.

Talk about Mike Love's outfit, but look at Brian's. A light blue, long-sleeved dress shirt with a pair of bright red sweat pants!  LOL

Where did the picture go?  Is anyone else not seeing it either?

It's back. I think that's the last picture Dennis looked half decent in. Much better then his average at the time. Sad that Brian probably gained 30-40 pounds from this by the end of 82.

No picture yesterday but one now.
This period was a strange one. I remember reading in one book I think that the band was contracted to having five "Beach Boys" on stage so Brian was called in at various times.
Mention also of Dean Torrance being on call to replace Mike if he took off TM-ing.
