Hey everyone,

I just got the LP California Feeling and it looks like an official Brother Records rarities release. I bought it under the impression that it was a bootleg of MIU outtakes but it turns out that the liner notes are by none other than Dr. Eugene Landy. The quality on most of the songs is pretty nice too, how come this LP isn't more widely known? This was honestly the first I've heard of it and I thought I paid pretty close attention to their discography. Why not re-release this album?

What's with the "Landy" liner notes?

The Landy notes are a joke but it is a great LP.

Your initial impression was entirely correct.  Cool

Thought so. Got thrown off for a second by the faux label/liner notes. I enjoy the collection of tracks though, a lot of rare songs I never thought I'd have on vinyl..

I assume we're talking of this one:

Brother Sun-3329 (great picture of Dennis on the rear of the sleeve)

1. California Feeling
2. Brian's Back
3. We're Together Again
4. Our Team
5. How's About a Little Bit of Your Sweet Lovin'
6. I'm Begging You Please
7. Santa Ana Winds
8. Looking Down the Coast
9. Lazy Lizzy
10. California Dreaming
11. Skatetown USA
12. Sherry, She Needs Me
13. River Song
14. Stevie
15. Marilyn Rovell
16. We Gotta Groove
17. Carry Me Home

I believe various versions circulate, and a later CD version added a further 8 tracks on the end ...
Be My Baby / You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' / Shortenin' Bread / Lines / On Broadway / Games Two Can Play / It's Tryin' To Say / Still I Dream Of It (Polyphone PH-1315)

The CD version was a dub off this and other vinyl boots. There is a misspelt boot called Califonia (sic) Feeling that is the original MIU

Dumb Angel Rarities did release the California Feeling LP tracks on CD from a tape source - still not great sound though, but far better than Polyphone's piss poor vinyl dub.

As I recall, four vinyl boots came out pretty much at the same time - Adult/Child, New Album, Califonia Feeling and Merry Christmas From The Beach Boys. I've not listened to those babies for, oh, must be close on 20 years.

And in addition to what Andrew just told: these 4 albums were presented as a 4 LP series.

The Cal. Feeling boot with Denny on the back isn't the same as the 4LP boot series is it? Those all have covers that are just one color with something (brothers logo?) over it, if I remember correctly. The one with Denny came out around the same time as the Brian Loves You boot with BW shirtless and wearing a fireman's helmet on the cover. Anyway, I think they have different tracklists. The one we are talking about is the better one.

No/Yes - they were totally different albums. As said earlier, the "Califonia Feeling" boot in the 4-LP set was a gathering of MIU outtakes/alternates, whilst this one was a mish-mash of tracks from that era ...

Actually Adult Child was the one fireman helmet cover. Of the 4 LP Making Waves series New Album is really good to listen to. Of the Brother series all are good but I like Landlocked as much as my favorite Beach Boys LP's.

Good call on that, but I thought Brian Loves you had a similar look...?

Brian Loves you is a wrap around cover with photos from Dean Anothney's book. The front is a 1964 photo of Brian.
