I think Pet Sounds has received a lot of attention in the form of re-releases and box set, very well deserved of course.  I think many would agree that Today and Summer Days/Nights are the most important of the other albums (apart from Smile). With the release of Warmth of the Sun we're fortunate to get a few more stereo remixes.  We have received bits and pieces before.  But isn't it time to get these two re-released in a Deluxe issue (maybe 2 CDs ?) with as much as possible in stereo and all the alternate takes there are, perhaps a few good live versions added to it ?

I've tried to summarize what I think we have today, from various sources.
Legend: EH: Endless Harmony, H: Hawthorne, Sos: Sounds of Summer, WotS: Warmth of the Sun.

I'd welcome corrections and additions. In the case of multiple stereo sources I don't even know if they  are identical. Wasn't there a problem with California Girls ?

I don't think that's going to happen. I really don't think there is any interest from Captiol in doing any special editions of Beach Boys albums except for Smile. I think you are more likely to see a Smile Boxset than a Today boxset OR even a stereo Wild Honey  Shocked. That's why they keep putting out greatest hits albums. As technology keeps improving, you may see every few years remastered editions of the same twofers we have now. You should seek out the Sea of Tunes bootlegs for Today! and Summer Days, they have all of the sessions you're looking for.

There has been (sort of) a deluxe set of those albums. I've got a box set with the Today, Summer Days and Wild Honey albums, each in one of those miniature LP replica sleeves. It looks pretty cool. No bonus tracks or new mixes though.

Nah... Capitol's next move should be along the lines of the Doors' Perception boxed set: new stereo remixes of every album, plus a 5.1 mix DVD-A with bonus tracks and video content. Starting with First Wave, then Surfin' Safari... and so on. Released individually and as an all-encompassing box set with a few discs of extra bonus material such as unreleased albums in 5.1.

I know, I know, a boy's gotta be able to DREAM, eh!

I would love a Today/Summer Days set, and inclusion of the alternates of Girl Don't Tell Me and Please Let Me Wonder would sweeten the deal considerably...

No doubt about it that Today and Summer Days are real gems, and although some of the songs could be made in stereo, but not the both songs of Help Me Rhonda. As I understood  the single version had its final overdubs during the mixing. So no guitar licks. Unless they can isolate that from the monomaster. I doubt it.

Two teeny-weeny problems:

1 - given the number they'd probably shift, the price tag would be something like $3000

2 - not possible anyway as a) some of the multitracks are missing; b0 even when they aren't, songs like the 45 version of "Rhonda" had parts added during mixdown, so a true stereo mix isn't possible.

I would give anything to hear them in actual stereo (which I think can be done).

Your best bet is to get the Sea Of Tunes boxes, then delve into my beachboysarchives.com website and follow along.  THAT will put you in "Today"/"Summer Days" la-la land BIG time!  Smiley
