The I Get Around sessions...

What's the deal with I Get Around? I'm listening to the SOT right now, it sounds like two seperate sessions. At first, it's just the boys with Brian playing bass, then all of a sudden you can hear that Hal and possibly Glen Campbell are there, and Brian is on piano. The "Track only" mix features the original sound, but then the instrumental overdub track is the fuller one.
Was there some taping over going on to do the "Concert" mix? What's the scoop?

Haven't listened to the SOT for years, but I remember someone saying that the IGA track on the box set was not actually from the single but was from the fix tape for Concert as you allude. So maybe there were two separate sessions that SOT mixes into one? Two separate final tracks?

When the Beach Boys wanted to finish the Concert album, the plan was to record an entirely new studio version of I Get Around and add fake live noise.
The first few tracks on SOT 6 disc 1 are from these sessions, i.e. the Boys working on a new instrumental track. At some point, it was decided that this did not work.
The new plan was now to use the original instrumental track from the released single version and record new vocals for the concert album release. The later tracks on SOT 6 disc 1 feature these new vocals, but with the original track in the background.
I guess the original vocals from the single version were consequently erased from the mutlitracks and are lost, except for the finished mono mix, of course. So a faithful stereo mix with the original vocal performance is not possible.

But we've still got the 8 trak master tapes of Bull Sessions, right?

I would say one of two vocal tracks from the single version was used for CONCERT. The vocals are identical, just not double-tracked.

Thanks guys. That clears most everything up.
However, the Badman books seems to not allude to a specific AFM sheet. Is there one?
Blaine and Campbell are audible... I wonder if Pohlman was there as well?

48-track master of Bull Sessions. Lots of ambient mic-ing.

Something I would like to have cleared up:
I believe it was posted on this board a couple of years ago (I think by AGD, not sure - please correct me if I'm wrong) that the IGA track on the GV box set was not the track on the original studio version but that of the Concert version. But what's up with that if the track of the Concert version
is
the track of the original studio version?

Wow. We've come a long way in three years...
Yeah, the backing track on GV really is the the original studio track. I'm not sure why people have suggested otherwise. If you have any doubts, just overlay the track with the studio version on ASL.

Understanding that the original vocals from the 45 single version are missing (except on the mono mix down); would a stereo version with the later vocals recorded for the concert album be possible?
I'd be happy with a released version of that.

I was misinformed some years ago by someone whose initials were Brad Elliott.

I *knew* it. I've been arguing that point for about 14 years now
Not the first time Brad misled anyone, of course.

Josh, at what point on the recording (minutes & seconds please) can you hear Glen Campbell? I've been trying to hear that for years, and I just can't!

I don't remember! It's been three some years.
Maybe I was just assuming he was there? I'll have to go back and listen.
That session continues to interest me though. Another real puzzler as far as personnel goes. And goodness, that apocalyptic dano sound!

So is what I wrote in January 2006 above still considered correct?
