Hey, Funko -- how about a Pop! Bruce Johnston figure to go with the rest of the set, please?? Just because Bruce was only on the back cover of PS, he still deserves to be part of the set. At least release it as a standalone add-on figure.
These Funko figures have been (as I’m sure many know) ubiquitous for a decade at this point. They’re past their peak of popularity, but they’re still putting a lot of them out. Their ubiquity has been rather irritating and annoying to many, and I can’t disagree too much, but it’s undeniably still entertaining to see Beach Boys figures. This is about the only way we’re ever getting them I’m sure.
But beyond the fact that this Beach Boys set is clearly about the iconography of the PS album cover (meaning the five core members), and beyond the fact that most 60s BB merchandise features the original five (with either Dave or Al), the most pertinent aspect of this is is that, with the possible exception of a Brian Wilson figure, NONE of these figures would sell well enough on their own to justify a toy company releasing them. Certainly a Bruce Johnston figure would not sell well. That’s precisely why it’s a 5-pack, which is actually not something that this company releases very many of.
And I suspect even this BB set will not be a huge seller; the venn diagram overlap of people who collect this stuff and Beach Boys fans is not super large, as evidenced by the lack of a ton of BB merch out there in the places you see other big pop culture juggernauts.
