Just to hear them sing the first part in "Sloop John B." (which probably will happen) would be cool....

It's been confirmed on the Blueboard.
From BW. COM Administrator: It's Official: Al to Join Brian on special tour dates
(posted by Administrator on September 14, 2006 at 9:23 am)
Message:
Hello everyone: Here is the latest news regarding Brian's upcoming dates. A little later today we'll have complete information, dates and links to order tickets on the website:
Brian will be playing five dates in November to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds (which some, although not Mike Love, have argued is virtually a Brian solo work). Those dates: Nov. 1 in L.A.; Nov. 17 in Boston; Nov. 18 in Washington, D.C.; Nov. 19 in Glenside, Pa.; and Nov. 21 in New York. On the last four of these dates (and maybe the first one; it's not firm yet), former Beach Boy Al Jardine will join Wilson, the first time in over a decade that they've shared a stage. A few West Coast shows might be added afterward.
It's also billed as the last time Wilson will perform Pet Sounds in its entirety, so it may well be quite an occasion.

Al could do a better lead on WIBN...maybe play it in the real key (for once!)

This is really exciting for a few reasons...first, Al's voice will make the Pet Sounds set especially sound a little more "Beach Boys"-like, since he'll presumably be able to do the leads he did on the record, and maybe a few more. Of course, just the fact that Brian is playing with another Beach Boy for the first time in a bit over a decade is cool in itself. I always figured that if Brian wanted to play again with any of them that Al would be his first choice.
The only thing I wanted to point out was that everyone hoping to hear solo Al stuff is probably going to be disappointed. Brian isn't going to change his setlist to accommodate Al. Assuming the arrangement is for Al to play along with Brian's band and not do his own set before Brian goes on, I'm doubting we're going to hear any Al rarities. It's still Brian's show, and he's still the main attraction. But Al being there will definitely add a lot to the quality of the show, for sure. I'm also hoping he may have a few leads during the Pet Sounds set that Brian originally sang (WIBN, You Still Believe in Me). Those who are able to attend the shows will certainly be a lucky bunch!

Did I read somewhere that the 'BRI' license issued to Mike Love to use the BB name for performances is expiring in the near future?
Is there any possibility that Brian, Al and Carl's estate will vote to issue the BB performing license to Brian?
And if that is a possibility, are these shows with Brian and Al some kind of test run for a Beach boys band with Brian & Al , backed up by Brian's band?
As Dennis Wilson once said, "Brian Wilson
IS

That would certainly be interesting. Brian has always seemed content to just be Brian Wilson and let Mike do the BB thing, so I'm not sure Brian would even make an effort to take the license away from Mike. Plus, Brian doesn't seem to want to tour so much anymore, and I know that there is no way he would want to keep a pace like Mike and Bruce do. I do think however that Brian and Al would comprise a more "legit" Beach Boys in the minds of a lot of fans. I'm just doubtful that it is what Brian wants.
I do wonder though what will happen when the license runs out...

I really could care less who calls themself 'the beach boys'. Seeing Brian doing a show as 'the beach boys' does nothing for me... In that regard I'd probably consider Mike and Bruce's tour more of an honest 'beach boys' because Mike has been touring as the Beach Boys for 40 years now, Brian hasn't. As members left, Mike replaced them. Now nobody's left but himself but he has stayed consistant.
If Brian called himself "The Beach Boys" he wouldnt' even have that. He pretty much abandoned the BB's 20 years ago, Mike didn't.
I'm not really sticking up for Mike, I'm just saying the BB's are dead and Brian's band being named the beach boys would make even less sense than if Mike's band is called the Beach Boys, imho. If all the surviving members of the "beach boys" rejoined for a tour or album, I could see using the name. With that said, though, i don't really have a problem with mike using it, it just doesn't seem authentic to me, just a business decision.. Al, Brian, Mike, and Bruce (maybe David) would seem as authentic as possible to me and would represent the spirit of the band.
Plus, screw it, Brian Wilson and Al Jardine is a f'in GREAT lineup. No need to call yourself the Beach Boys. As soon as you break into "California Girls" I think the crowd will get the picture.

Launch Radio Networks has issued the following report
from Howie Edelson:
BRIAN WILSON REUNITING WITH AL JARDINE FOR 'PET SOUNDS' ANNIVERSARY CONCERTS
Beach Boys co-founders Brian Wilson and Al Jardine are reuniting to perform the group's legendary Pet Sounds album for a series of U.S. dates. As was first reported by LAUNCH back in May, Wilson had approached Jardine earlier this year and asked him if he would be interested in taking part in a few "informal benefit shows."
In an exclusive to LAUNCH, Jardine said that he's thrilled to be performing with his old high school football teammate and Beach Boys bandleader: "It's an extraordinary event, us participating together for the 40th anniversary of Pet Sounds. I think this is the first time we've performed together in a decade -- and actually, the first time we're performing Pet Sounds together in its entirety."
Although the final stage plans haven't been finalized, Jardine said that he'll appear during the second half of the show probably just as a singer, not as a guitarist. He joked that he was happy about just being featured vocally, due to the complicated chords featured in the songs.
He added that he and Brian hadn't worked out the lead vocal duties for such songs as "You Still Believe In Me," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "Sloop John B.," which Jardine had sung lead on in concert with the Beach Boys over the years. He added that he needs to reacquaint himself with some of the songs that Wilson now performs in different keys.
Jardine told us that he and Wilson will have only a couple of days rehearsal together prior to the first show together in L.A. Jardine says that although his voice is in great shape, it has definitely matured: ["Well, my voice, what actually has happened... I've got a richer voice now. It's more of a baritone. It's gotten into the... sneaking into the baritone range. But I sing in the same keys of the song. The song's in the same key. I can go lower, but not higher. We all suffer from that."] SOUNDCUE (:12 OC: . . . suffer from that)
When asked if he and Wilson would attempt to perform their legendary 1969 collaboration "Loop de Loop (Flip Flop Flyin' In An Aeroplane)," which was finally completed and issued on the group's 1998 Endless Harmony soundtrack, Jardine laughed and said that he'd definitely run it by Wilson as an encore option.
Since 2000, Wilson has performed several tours in which he's performed Pet Sounds in its entirety. In 2002, he released his Pet Sounds Live album, which was recorded at London's Royal Festival Hall.
The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds was originally released on May 16th, 1966. The band has just released a deluxe reissue of the album featuring remastered versions of both the mono and recent stereo mixes, along with a bonus DVD and a newly created 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound mix.
The Brian Wilson Pet Sounds tour dates with special guest Al Jardine (subject to change)
November 1 - Los Angeles, CA - Royce Hall UCLA
November 17 - Boston, MA - Orpheum Theatre
November 18 - Washington, D.C. - TBA
November 19 - Glenside, PA - Keswick Theatre
November 21 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre
Jardine said that he was still not sure whether he would be making the trip to London for Wilson's November 12th show at the Adelphi Theatre, which coincides with Wilson's induction into the UK Music Hall Of Fame on November 14th. It was announced on Wilson's official (brianwilson.com) website that several additional West Coast shows might take place after the officially announced dates.
Back in May, Jardine had stated that he had hoped the London show would have been the chance for a full scale Beach Boys Pet Sounds reunion show, featuring co-founder Mike Love and longtime ember Bruce Johnston.

It sure would be nice if they added a few west coast dates (in the SF Bay Area please!) as they indicate they might. While I've caught Brian on every one of his full-blown tours (99, 00, 01, 04, 05), I've never been able to catch him during these instances where he just did a short run of 1-4 shows in the US like he's done a few times. In fact, apart from a few shows at the Roxy in L.A. and this upcoming show at UCLA, I don't think he's ever done any other shows on the west coast unless it was part of a full-blown tour. The short runs or one-off shows have usually been on the east coast or in the midwest.
I was never able to make the UCLA show anyway, though apparently even if I could make it, it's sold out. Plus, even if I could make it and could get a ticket, it still doesn't seem 100% confirmed that Al will be at that show, although the latest sort-of press release or whatever that thing was seemed to confirm it. Oh well. People in L.A., and the other cities, please get some camcorders and audio recorders into those shows!
I don't know how great the prospects are for a Bay Area show, but even if one is added, I don't know if I can rely on the official BW website to find out about it. They never listed the 2004 Smile show at Davies Hall in San Francisco on their tour schedule! I was there, I bought tickets. It did happen!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... In the final Brian Wilson (with Al Jardine) 'live' Pet Sounds tour encore section I'd like to hear Al sing his amazing (recorded) lead on the last verse of "Somewhere Near Japan".......That man can really sing!
I'd like to hear Brian play & sing "Please Let Me Wonder".......I hope I'm around to catch one of those shows.

I know what you mean. I should point out that I've never seen Brian in L.A. though. It isn't that close to me really. I can't just whip down to the LA and come back all in the same day. (Well, I could, but that wouldn't make the show very fun). While I have no desire to start comparing notes on what areas of the country are the biggest "concert markets", population concentrations, etc., I think it really makes sense to play the Bay Area if he's going to do anything beyond NY and LA and maybe a few other east coast/midwest shows. The Bay Area has some of the best and most famous concert venues, and of course has a pretty strong history when it comes to concerts.
By the way, a quick perusal of the rough mileage shows me that from the Bay Area (and I'm being generous and using the south bay) to Los Angeles is about 342 miles, while from North Carolina (I chose Raleigh by default) to Glenside, PA is 446 miles. So, you're probably about 100 miles farther away from the Keswick Theatre BW show than I am from the UCLA BW show, and roughly two hours longer of a drive. From San Francisco proper or more generally the northern areas of what is considered the "Bay Area" to L.A. is around 400 miles, so the differences is even less. Any of these trips are well outside of what I would consider a local show for either of us. Of course, I readily admit that you have to do this or more on every BW tour, while I have had to go short distances for his full-blown tours where he did hit the Bay Area.
In any event, I'm not complaining that I never get to see Brian on tour. I'm just pointing out that if he's only going to do a hand full of concert dates, I think the SF Bay Area makes sense after LA and NY and other large markets. Plus, it makes sense logistically, especially since it would be relatively near where Al lives as well.

I agree it would make much more sense for Brian to play the Bay Area than near here, I'm just saying it's frustrating, lol. He played Atlanta a few years ago, it was only about 4 hours away but I couldn't make it.
