I'm guessing a lot of people watched it. Katy Perry (one of the judges) said "the number 1 song that I wish I could have written is God Only Knows".

I have a hard time listening to covers of GOK. Some are brilliant, but the only thing covers of this song evoke for me is a desire to forget the cover and go for the original. In fact, this might be the only song that covers of which kinda piss me off-- for no other reason than that they're not the original track.

This version by Maddie Poppie was totally forgettable. It's too bad that God Only Knows is the only Beach Boys song that ever gets performed on these talent shows. I think a singer would be better served doing something less predictable like Warmth Of the Sun or In My Room or something way out there like Don't Talk Put Your Head On My Shoulder.

And with songs like that, the term songwriters is used very loosely.

I'm not a fan of these breathy, almost spoken vocal styles - far too commonplace these days and completely uninteresting.  An insult to the song, in my opinion.
