OR
Pancakes and Reels, go 'round & 'round. This thread is for the
tiny and small
reels and pancakes that still go 'round & 'round.
In thinking about this topic, I have come to realize that every one of you (us) has dealt with tape pancakes. Look inside any compact cassette. Do you see reels? NO! The tape may be small, but it's stacking on one side of the cassette or the other side as a pancake. No reels.
But
in the annals of progress, they do exist -- separate reels and pancakes for cassette tape.

Hi Stephen, I saw that tiny tape (the first one), I thought about buying some but I have to say that they're very expensive!
Thanks for sharing!

Amazing youtube page of 1970s technology!

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

COMMENT to SMiLE Brian: Love'd the cassette carousel demo.
Back when I was in business, my company invested in a professional carousel machine for use by institutions that store tons of records -- in those days, on CDs. I argued with the board not to invest because by the time this thing came to market solid state storage would exceed its capacity of 1000 CDs. The board, made up of bean counter types, thought I was crazy -- and of course, SS memory soon exceeded any CD carousel by a factor of 100 or more and we lost money. But it is certainly fun to watch these old machines in action. Thanks
