Well, Mike
is
a member of The Beach Boys. I don't really see much of a problem with posters or t-shirts having only one member featured. What if it were only Brian, or only Al pictured? Or even only Carl pictured? It wouldn't really give me much cause for concern. Just because it's not a full group shot doesn't mean they don't count.
If it's the band, should be more than one of the members. That was Mike's argument in 2005, but of course for him it was different because of his jealousy in regards to Brian.
If that's the case then it does seem a bit hypocritical. I'm not familiar with the 2005 case.

Good Vibrations came out in 1966, hippies and peace symbols came later. I don't like the association.
While the term “hippie” and the peace symbol burst into the popular culture scene in 1967, both were around in late 1966 when Good Vibrations was released, especially in San Francisco.
Concerning the poster, IMO it's a damn shame that Mike is the only BB pictured, just as it's as damn shame that Mike's image was carefully cropped out and removed from the numerous photos of the group in Brian's current Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary tour program.

Correct, Mike is neither pictured nor mentioned anywhere in the program, and Bruce is not pictured either. Most of the group photos in the program are from the San Diego Zoo photo shoot, and while Bruce did appear in some of those, he was not present in most. In the program numerous artists offer their perspectives on Pet Sounds, and one of them (don't recall which one) mentions Bruce, so his name does appear in print once in the program. (It's important to note that Bruce was not presented to the public as an official BB at that time, but rather as Brian's fill-in on the road.) Al is one of the musicians offering his perspective on Pet Sounds. "The families of Carl and Dennis Wilson" are mentioned under "Special Thanks" but while there is a section where many Pet Sounds session musicians offer their comments, there is no such section in the program highlighting the Pet Sounds vocalists, i.e. the members of The Beach Boys. I'm presuming this occurred so as to avoid any mention of Mike. Couple that with the second-rate Good Vibes poster featuring only Mike's image and, like I said, IMO it's all a damn shame.

Brian has got to be in there somewhere but my main issue is with the awful amateurish nature of the poster. I mean...horrible stupid SF cliche... pay some decent artist or hire someone who is at least somewhat up to date as to what is considered acceptable merch. Mike has admitted he doesn't know how to use a smartphone so I presume most tech is difficult...no problem with that but he needs someone who is aware of what is expected of a band such as the Beach Boys. The merch at BW shows has been good overall but has declined in quality over the years IMO but it was never as dumb as this crap.

The worst part about is how horribly generic it is, the only real connection it has to The Beach Boys is Mike, the lyric snippets, and the license plate on the van. Nothing else about it screams ''Beach Boys'', and even though GV is one of the psychedelic anthems of the 60's, the general public does not associate the BBs with the 60's counterculture, certainly not the audience attending a M&B show, for the most part. Although it's a pretty uninspired shirt in general, it'd still do much better without any BBs iconography on it.

The difference is Brian is and has been touring under his own name, and who knows what stipulations there are regarding using the other band members' images in an official Brian Wilson item sold as merch for his tours. It was one of the keystones of the 2005 lawsuit, that one of Mike's claims in '05 was that his image was used as part of an old BB band photo on a giveaway release featuring Brian.
The fact that this is sold on the Beach Boys website as official band merch is what raises an eyebrow, if Mike were selling these on his own website he could put as many images of himself in such a print as he wanted, but this is sold as Beach Boys merch on their website.
I'm just wondering how it slipped through.

Yeah, but the difference here is that the 2005 release was a BW solo recording that featured a pic of all the BBs. The BW Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary tour program, on the other hand, is basically a retrospective of the creation of the album, with only one of the 24 pages having info on the current touring band. But you do bring up an interesting point, perhaps there are some stipulations, or concern of a potential lawsuit, preventing Mike's image from appearing. But I can't help but thinking both the BW program and the Good Vibes poster, featuring only Mike's image, reflect the sorry state of relations between the two camps these days. Don't know if it'll ever happen, but I'd love to see the C50 lineup get back together again.

I would avoid using Mike's image at all costs after the 2005 lawsuit.
