Let me just say this about the fights, Mike and Dennis both did better when the put their differences aside and made music. They wrote some fine songs together and seeing them improvise at the end of Celebrate The News on the Mike Douglas show is one of my favorite Beach Boys moments.  It is too bad it escalated into violence but I also think they did care about each other in a strange way and were better for having the other to compete with creatively.

Dennis had to have met Shawn earlier than that. At the July 5th, 1981 show in Long Beach, Dennis shouted out "I love Shawn!" during "Help Me Rhonda". On a related note, I'm surprised that Mike didn't beat the living merda out of Dennis on that occasion.  Cheesy

Hmmm...I've always thought he shouted out "I love this song!"...but maybe not.

Watch the dvd, or listen to the recording again. About 10 seconds after Dennis made the comment, he also said "I love you Shawnie".

I love the irony of a thread about a trashy band fight itself descending into an embarrassing board fight. This was a riot to read through and I hope years later even the participants can see it that way  LOL (C'mon, we can laugh at ourselves, can't we? It's a funny coincidence, surely.)

In case yall ever see this again, Mr Carlin, I greatly enjoyed your book. Mr Stebbins, I haven't had the pleasure yet but hopefully someday. For what it's worth, as an amateur writer, I'd like to be credited if anyone is quoting something I said or using my work as a source, but I also acknowledge on a message board with quotes from a third person it gets kinda murky.

Mike probably deserved a good smack for some of the sh*t he pulled over the years, but not like this. Not in front of the fans, not by a drunken Dennis telling the crowd to take drugs. Two wrongs don't make a right. Nobody in the beach boy world is a perfect saint--not even Brian and Carl.
