I am up to chapter 8, and haven't read much about Carl yet! I was hoping this would say as much about Carl as Jon Stebbon's books talked about Dennis and Dave. I felt like I was getting a perspective from a different point of view. Of course Dave is here to tell his stort, but Dennis isn't yet I still felt I was reading his story.

That is one of the problems with this book. Too much of just retelling the same stories we've all read before, with no particular emphasis on Carl. I hope someone else will try.

Yes, the book is a big letdown compared to what we were all hoping for. But the story of the author's encounter with Dennis at Carl's Roxy Club appearance in '81, hitherto untold, almost makes it worth it.

Yeah, very disappointing. I wish someone would write a legit bio on this great man, with the help of in the know folks like Billy H. and his bandmates.

Nothing special or revelatory, just nice to read in a bittersweet way.

I have read several factual errors too. But I can accept some of that if there was so actual inside info on Carl. I think The Lost Beach Boy said as much if not more about Carl in the early years!

Noticed this towards the end of the book, too - his placement of the Beckley/Lamm/Wilson cd makes it seem like it was only a couple years after Youngblood.  Strange.
