Imagine what the Beach Boys coulda done with a song like "Little Dreamer" off the debut album.  In some other universe I can hear maybe Carl doing the lead, and then when the rest of the Boys come in on the chorus bvs.....Wow!

That's a great one. I love "Little Dreamer"... on certain days that's my favorite Van Halen track. Carl would be perfect for the lead.

No "apparently" about it: Carl sang back up on Roth's cover of "Californina Girls", along with Christopher Cross.

Aaaaand...not only is there no "apparently" -- Carl's voice is loud and clear: on the choruses, listen to the second "I wish they all could be California" -- that's pretty much ALL Carl!

I have been calling Mike Love "The Original David Lee Roth" for years.

If that's the case, then once-mullet-wearing and cruelly-kicked-out Al Jardine must be the original always-mullet-wearing and cruelly-kicked-out Michael Anthony.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

DLR has often seemed to me like a hipper, stoned ML, with more hair.

DLR more hair? Maybe once upon a time....
Well, he may not have as much hair as he did 25 years ago, but recent pics show him having more up there than Michael. Or has he joined the hair club for men?

I would have loved to hear the Beach Boys singing background on some of the really hot stuff like "Why Can't This Be Love?" or some of those other really poppy, energetic songs Van Halen was doing for awhile there.

Can you imagine Brian arranging and harmonizing with that kind of rhythm, and that kind of guitar work on a song?  Crazy.
