I haven't seen much written about this subject aside from The sale of SOT back in the 60's.    Following that, who held , or holds the publishing on subsequent material?   Additionally, I wonder how writers royalties are handled both for pre and post SOT material that was sold.   My understanding is that while Brian and the Mike were able to obtain a one time settlement in recent years , they get no royalties from SOT publishing.     anyone care to expound/discuss?

Melinda mentioned in a recent interview that Brian will get everything back in a few years.

My understanding is sorely incomplete, but the basic outline seems to be that Irving/Almo still hold the SOT publishing catalog, and that while it was adjudged to have been sold behind Brian's back (I think it was decided that Murry forged his signature), Brian got a one-off payment of $10 million in April 1992, but not his publishing back. Said $10 million was soon whittled down to $0 following the December 1994 award of $5 million to Mike and the $5 million paid to Brian's lawyers, who rejected an out of court offer of $750,000. Brian then sued said lawyers, and rightly so IMHO: don't know the result of that one but I suspect he won. Hope so.

Anyone know better (not hard) please chime in.

But Brian( and Mike? ) would still get paid every time the song is performed/sung would they not?  That should ad up.

Here's an article about how musical royalties work:    http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/music-royalties5.htm
so while I don't exactly understand it all, someone else must.

Various Beach Boys I believe.  They had their own publishing companies and probably licensed the stuff to others.  I don't think they would make the same mistake twice!  Names like Brother, Wilojarston and BriMel were/are used for their publishing and licensed to BMI and other bigger companies.

All I can do is shake my head at that.  Poor Brian.
